Measured. Bill makes sure his designs do what they are supposed to.
You say you can stand them on their end, is that with mouth up or down. If down I take it they need to be raised?
Mouth facing upwards towards the ceiling.

The 3dB you loose from having no VPlate, you gain in the wider T45.

I'm in Maidenhead, so about 30 minutes from Paddington if you get a fast train.

Thanks for the offer Wilkins, I will send you a message when the weather is nicer as I quite often cycle round there. Do you throw any nights?

Chris thank you for educating me in the way of the T45, I have bought the plans CD and spent last night checking it out. I had an idea that I wanted to run past you and ideally Bill if he reads it.. I'm thinking of when the T45s are at home, if I built a frame for each that would have them vertical and mouth pointing down and raised from the floor would that affect response? The idea is being to use them as pedestals for a nice house plant or something of the sort. I realise a certain amount of clearence from the ground is needed so as not to restrict airflow. I guessed if the mouth was 5 inches off the floor and unobstructed on all four sides that would be enough?

Greatful for any input and thanks in advance,

Alex

AKC1 wrote: Tue Mar 27, 2018 6:45 am That is interesting! had kind of passed over the T45 as I thought it had a a similar response to the T30. That graph shows quite a different response, louder and smoother. I like it. Just built a cardboard mock up and size looks acceptable too.

Is that graph a measured response or simulated?

T45s are a refolded T30 so response is similar depending on widths.

You can stand them up on end mouth up. T60s are the same design form and I've stood those up before in venues. Mouth down would require some form of stand, yeah.

That would work fine, though, you need to have it sufficient distance from the floor. Recalling past discussions on the matter, 6" rings a bell but I wouldn't take my word for it! :noob:

Similar, but not the same.

I think the T45 is a very underrated design. The practicality of the dimensions are hard to beat. It's the T39 of the Tuba world.

With a pair of cabs, loosing the ability to v-plate is equal to losing a third cabs worth of extra (free) performance. Make sure you understand what you need before making a decision ;)

Thanks Chris and Dan,

With the kind of gigs and parties i will be playing, I'm guessing two of either the T30 or T45 are going to be overkill.

Daes anybody have a graph of a 24" T45 Vs. a 27" T30 where both cabs are using the LAB12?

Thank you all for your time and I promise I will start building and stop asking questions soon! :)

In the mean time here's some Driver/Bike porn..

I was planning to have the OT12s and a T39 at a gig for a friend's band next month but just heard it is cancelled
Nothing else planned until Summer.

Does anyone know why each LAB12 comes with 2 gaskets?

Two gaskets to provide the option of front-loading or rear-loading.

That's what I guessed but it seemed odd as you would only need one as a)the front has a built in gasket b)you only ever mount from front or back, not both.

Hey ho at least I have spares now..

I made a simple router jig to make the OT12 driver spacer, nothing very fancy as I'm more of a wood butcher than a craftsman, but it worked and you're more than welcome to use it if you do go ahead with OT12s.
Personally I found the throat reflectors the biggest fiddle. I only had a jigsaw and a router for the build, lots of sanding to get them to fit nicely.

Thank you, may well take you up on that. Did you use the 1.2KHz option? Which drivers did you go for?
