Finally, Hello!

#1 Post by atomduul »

I have been doing my best with researching on this site in lurker mode, and have finally decided to join up and hopefully get some guidance, answers, and schooling.

I am currently planning on building an Omni 12 Tall Boy with a Kappalite mainly for use as an electronic drum PA. Occasional bass and other foreign noises will be put through it also.

Thanks in advance for any advice offered here. Over to the Omni board.

Erik

Do you need a one cab solution?

T39 plus an OT12 might be worth the extra expense, as PA goes it's no contest.

Is this for home use, or back line? Or both?
Or rehearsal?
More info please...

Grant/Greg - you two are like a tag team on every thread! It's like you are trying to single handedly rebuild the global economy by making people build more cabs! Keep at it!

Not every thread
Gregory's advice is often better than mine as well.
I do like to help though.

Chris,
You could always put a bid in for the mother country. ...I reckon most people think, "...yea, do what the 2 G's recommend!"

...G's to the higher power.

Woah there!

Some info -

I am mostly going to use this for me in a practice room. It will probably sit in a corner behind me.
I don't have too much money. The Kappalite will be a little of a stretch.
This may occasionally have to all fit in my Jeep Liberty.
I play noise. And sometimes some metal. I am after un-drum like sounds. I am packing up my Pearl Masters in favor of more noise and adventure.
I have a carver amp to use to power this.
It seems like the omni12tb would fit the bill. I can always build another!

Thanks for the quick replies!

Packing up your Masters hmmm (My main kit is your kit's great grandfather, DX series from 1984).

You could always send it to me :)

If you're planning on making noises that go low, you may well want to consider Gregory's suggestion of a sub and top. If your're not going low enough to need a sub, you could go a Omni15TB or the Omni12TB as you said.

Have a look at the SPL charts section to see the response of the cabs.

Speakerhardware is a great site to get your drivers etc, competitively priced...

Omni 15 Tall Boy, FTW!

No! I am not getting RID of the Pearl, just setting it asside for a bit. The electronics should be fun. And in lieu of my music making mates actually playing as noisy as I would like, I will apply my Keith Moon wannabe playing to distorted and drastically messed up sounds.

I have checked out the Spl charts for months now. That's how I came up with the OmniTB idea. I just recently downgraded myself from the 15 to the 12, thinking performance wise they would probably be about the same.

I know, I know! They aren't the same. Damn. I will keep considering. I will also do some measuring when I get home after a turkey vacation to the homeland of Buffalo.

Man, thanks for all the input, guys. I will post back with some specs on my amp when I get home. I am planning on slowly adding in an EQ and limiter as I gain funds to purchase them.

Thanks!
Erik

Strangely, 3015LF were cheaper than 3012LF last time I looked. Lab12 is good buying too.

You have a 2 channel amp already, your jeep has a towing hitch?

luv, Leland's Ghost.

How would the 3015lf and 3012lf compare to the above chart? Also, the kappa pro 15lf 2? I'm not overly concerned with weight. Money would be the deciding factor if performance is damn close.
The Lab 12 seems to have very low sensitivity compared to the other options.
