Hello From texas T-48 DR-250 Wedgehorn 2nd Build Start

#1 Post by mobetter »

I have built 1 30" T-39 and a OT12 for my bass rig Powered by a Gaillen Kruger RB800, Although I wished I would have made the T39 24" but it does pack a punch with very little power.
I have the Drivers I order through music123 4-3015lfs and 6 2510 deltalites for my next build becuase they matched a low low price from a online vender so I got the 3015lf's for 169 and the 2510 deltalitesII for 139

My band plays a variety of Classic rock/Pop/country rock covers.

I plan on building 4-T48s and 6-Dr250s(4- with the melded array and 2- with the compression horn) for our mains. Although we will probably only use 2-48s and 2-4 DR250 for most gigs which are smaller Clubs,
The complete system would be reserved for outdoor gigs.
My questions are, is this a good combination, is 6 dr250 to much for 4 48s?
Is is bi amping good enough with a system like this or should I triamp.?
Is it recommended to use the passive xovers DRs if I'm using electronic xover?
Should I keep the low pass in the 48s if using a xover?
I'll be powering the systems with 2- Carvin dcm2000, and a 800w QSC amp. I know a lot of people do not care the carvins but they have served me well and take alot of abuse, I can repair them my self with local off the self parts.
any insight would be helpful at this point. I'm starting this build Monday and hope to get them completed in 2 Weeks which is pushing it.
I would dedicate 1 of the dcms for the subs and the other for the DR's.
One last thing. Is using a DEQ2496 and dcx2496 a decent choice, I hear a lot of bad talk of these and Behringer products in general.

I would go with a 1-to-1 ratio of subs & tops.

Bi-amping is fine, but why are you planning to build a set with compression drivers? The extra money could be better spent elsewhere, like 2 more T48s, or a quality DSP/speaker management processor. You can tri-amp, if you wish, but I wouldn't advise it unless you have a dedicated, experienced and trust-worthy sound tech at the mixer controls.

The DR2xx use a set of high pass and low pass filters to help the transition from woofer to piezo array. Use it.

T48 needs a 40Hz high pass, 35Hz when you use 4 or more, to protect the drivers against over excursion. So, yes, you need a HPF for the T48s, and it should be part of your active crossover functions.

Use whatever amps you wish, as long as they can provide adequate voltage, with at least 10% headroom, to driver everything to near full voltage.

The DEQ/DCX combo is a superb DSP combination. Just make sure you, or whom-ever is running the sound, is very intimate with how everything functions, and how to correct any discrepancies.

2 weeks is really pushing it for DR2xxs. I would build the subs first, and have them out of the way so you can concentrate on the DR250 build. Have fun, and good luck with your builds!
I know money often seals the deal, but seriously, quality is an investment, not an expense... Grant Bunter

You're building a lot of cab you probably don't need.

If you could swap 3015LF to 3012lf and build t39 you wouldn't miss anyhing doing classic rock. EDM gets a better shake with the big ones though.

I have 4 t48 and 4 dr250. It's not enough to do Pink Floyd but it is plenty for local festivals. I would need 2x to do local big ticket gigs.

What's a big ticket gig to you in terms of crowd size? Just out of curiosity?

3 or 4000, they got 15k to dr. hook/ CCR last year, would need to borrow Bill for that sort of gig.

So with 4 DR200 and 4 T39s I could just about handle 1000?

Play to, sure. Rock concert level, not so much I think.

It's easy enough to calculate your spl at 1m but I forget the attenuation at distance rule.

+1 on even sub to top ratio. That said, 6DRs gives a sweet effortless sound over 4titans.

+1 on piezos for all cabs too. I've never had a problem with them keeping up in my dr280s, so I can't imagine them being needed in dr250s.
-1 for thought terminating cliches.

Built and/or own:
8 x T48 24" 3015LF
6 x DR280
2 x DR250 old style beta10
2 x T36s 20" delta15L
1 x TAT
1 x dual Lab12 30" T60

In Progress:
2 x DR280
