I pulled the box apart, added a ton of gorilla wood glue, then used screws instead of finishing nails. It produces lows pretty well now - doesn't leak or buzz. I didn't stuff it with anything though - in what way would that affect things?. I actually feel kind of bad asking for help on a project that I barely followed the directions on, but maybe it'll be a good thread to point other people to so they don't make the same mistakes.
