Many thanks for allowing me to join the forum.

#1 Post by Pigpen »

Hi I'm new here, been into sound for many years and own my own small system, which I have built up over the last 5 years.
However now I wish to take my first steps in cab building planned for 2011. The system I have built uses the best drivers I have been able to obtain on a modest budget, however now I feel limited by the cheapness of the cabs I have had to use.
Really looking forwards to getting to grips with building something that will do justice to my drivers...As I have only just found this site it will take a little time to peruse the wealth of knowledge here !
Thanks again to the Mods for activating my account. Regards, Pigpen.

Hi tdogg, I'm in the UK. Heard thru the grapevine that Bill's cabs were something to check out.
So far I'm interested in the DR's, yet to check out the bass cabs.
I've got a workshop, now I need to spend a little time getting a few tools.
I thought I'd join so I can get some feedback on what might be of use to me.
I'll purchase some plans when I am definate about which way I want to go.
Thanks for the welcome !

Hi Zack.So far I have:
4 H&K Powerworks RS115 600 watt subs (however I don't really want to mess with these as they are nice and light and good for certain jobs).
4 cheapo reflexes loaded with Fane Colossus 15 XB's 800 watt.
4 full range tops using Precision Devices 1550's,2 with Martin Audio DC025 comps,2 with P Audio BMS 440's.
2 mid cabs loaded with 2 Fane 12 MB's 450watts in each.

Drivers I have spare to build with are:
2 Celestion 15 FTR 4080FD 1000 Watts.
2 Eminence Kappa 15 LF's 600 watts.
2 Fane Colossus 15's 400 watts.
4 Fane Studio 10's 200 watts.
4 Celestion bullets tweeters 100 watts.

All drivers I give the wattage for each.
Not the best kit I know, but all the drivers are in perfect condition, and best of all I bought them very cheaply !
I've got 4 other Eminence 300 15's in monitors. The top list is what I'm using to gig with at the moment.

I'm hoping a bit of knowledge will still be able to permeate this dense old skull ! :wall:
I've never built cabs before and I have no idea how to use the many modelling programmes, such as WinISD, Hornresp and the like even tho' I have heard of them.
My electronic skills are good tho...10 years in Telecomunication repair, 5 years on Boeings so I'm quite handy wiring up.
I'm just financially pushed (aren't we all ?) and trying to improve my gear on a mega tight budget.
Hopefully I will be able to be able to indulge myself a bit more if things pick up in 2011

PS- I'm hoping to build the cabs first...it'll give me an excuse to find the money for better drivers.
