Auto Tuba What tools do I need?

#1 Post by ntehicks »

I am thinking about starting an AutoTuba and wanted to find out what tools are required to build this?
I also wanted to find out what would be the best plans to go with for a Toyota Camry Trunk? wether the autotuba is the best or if there is something that is a little bigger that would give me more rich bass.

baronvonsteve's 17 panel width ( or was that 18) with the Tang Band driver crushes his van off a little 55watt Wal-Mart amp (getting 118 Db) and even runs it off the cigarette lighter socket! YUP!!! SICK!!!

Take your time.

Table Saw with Panel Jig or Good Circular Saw with sled from plans.
Circle cutting jig (Router or Jig saw)
Drill
Misc Clamps.

Finishing tools

That should be OK.

I have personally heard Steve's set up. It is a very small amp, and it does sound really good!!

It's hard to compare it to anything else I have ever heard before. It is very clean and crisp. I have heard louder, and I have heard some that even play lower, but nothing comes close to the SQ of the auto tuba!
And as far as the lower thing goes.... I have my sub, which is a 10" Boston G2, sealed, high passed at 30 Hz 18Db and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I'm all for SQ in the car, and the auto tuba delivers.
Will I put one in my car, probably not, because space is really limited in my 300ZX. The G2 only requires a .5 cubic ft. box.
The wife's car will be getting an auto tuba though :P

+1 but I am not confident making angle cuts with my circular saw so I use a power planer or just a normal plane to fit the panels together once cut to size.
2 TAT 16" loaded with JBL GTO 804 + V plate
Tannoy Precision 8D monitors, Tannoy System 800 monitors
Minidsp 2x4, Berry DCX2496, Lem 420 amplifier

To do:
17" Autotuba with JBL GTO 1002D 10"

It can be built with a circular saw and jigsaw as the only power tools. More power tools than that are nice, but not an absolute necessity. AFAIK Noah built the Ark without any power tools.

+1 on all accounts!
I built my AT with a circ. saw, jig saw, clamps, two foot square, and a drill. It rocks!
