Something to do while avoiding work and listening to the test match...

I recorded some audio samples of my BFM O15TB and compared them with a Labsystems 410HPX (http://www.labsystems.com.au/labsystems.htm) - the Lab is a decent 4x10; weighs a ton, power handling 1000W RMS into 8 Ohm. RRP was $2100 Australian, but of course I got it for less.

Sorry for the crap playing; I can do better. This isn't a studio recording; it's done in my spare bedroom with an Olympus LS-10 at about 5 feet; auto level. All samples had exactly the same settings/distance etc.

Anyway here's the BFM with the first 12 bar blues; digitally amplified x2:

Here's the Labbie with the same bit; again digitally amplified x2:

Here's another 12 bars with the BFM; no amplification with the computer:

And the Labbie; no post-recording amplification:

If anyones interested, the bass is a Tobias Classic 5 through a BBE BMax-T pre with Eq levels set flat, and a Yamaha P3500S power amp at about 1 third volume bridged (my Tube amp is being fixed). To my mind the BFM is about as loud, but more 'Hi-Fi' and better defined highs and mids. The Labbie is possibly slightly louder, but is 'growlier' (or muddier depending on your point of view). What do others think (I know I need to improve my technique)?

Here's the speaker in a band context. Same equipment; 1/2 volume, no digital changes made:

Our rehearsal room has terrible acoustics; the band needs some work, but you get the idea.
