Not bad, but the author isn't well informed. In particular, his view of the PA column, which did not come about as a method of adding more drivers without increasing the footprint. Column speakers, the precursors of line arrays, were well understood in the 1940s, by a number of engineers, most notably Harry Olsen. One of the first major installations of column speakers was in St.Paul's cathedral in London, circa 1948. It worked so well that it remained in use for over 50 years.
