Cutting piezos and not your fingers.

Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

DaveK wrote:Thanks. I hesitate to talk about that jig in a thread about saw safety, but I'm very happy with it. The reason I hesitate is that I hold the tweeters in the jig with my fingers as I slide it across the blade. That puts my fingers within 2 inches of the blade. Needless to say, I'm very careful.

DaveK, that is a very nice jig. I think that Rockler sells some lever locking hold down clamps intended to secure work on a bench that perhaps you could use to hold the tweeters in place while you are cutting. The top of the clamp would fit on the back of the tweeter.

I'm confused on the lug thing. In the plans, it doesn't reference any issue with the lugs getting in the way, and certainly doesn't appear that they get in the way in the pictures of the glue-up. Am I missing something here?

All tweeters are cut on the lug end, so when assembled the lugs all face each other.

^^ has this changed? It says this for both my OT12 and DR plans...

Some of the builders have taken to "reversing" every other piezo in an array, meaning every other one has the "lug" pointing in the opposite direction.

Still not seeing how the lugs would get in the way, even when cut on the other side. Maybe I'll understand better when my piezos arrive.

Build a DR array, and you'll understand

OK one last question on the 45 degree cuts... What's the measurement from the right edge to the short edge of the 45? I'm pretty sure I have the jig correct... but I don't want to destroy two piezos to find out!

Edit: OK, it's in the OT12 plans.

Can I do this to myself?

Capital H,
No T,
a question mark, and
a please; would grease the wheels, :cop:

BUT,

That jig is made to my table saw and the bits and pieces I had available. It would be different for anyone else's.

The dimensions are governed by the piezo cut dimensions and the size of the piezos in any case.

The various camera angles provide you all the detail you need really.

Plus one to all of the above.

Is War Office Whipping Boy acceptable?

If you need to go off plans, Bill offers the piezo jig in the panel jig set for two bucks.
