Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

piezo wiring question

#1 Post by himhimself »

I found a thread from 10 years ago where a builder said he just wrapped bare wire from terminal to terminal down the array, then soldered a dot to hold them. Seems like a great idea, but when looking at how the +/- line up, how do you ensure they don't end up touching? Anyone have a tip on how to do that, or, even better, a picture? Finished testing my tweets today and have just enough good ones. Not 100% sure the "bad" ones were really bad, but they seemed to have some little weird sounds during the sweeps. Might all smooth out when combined, but I set them aside anyway. One reverse polarity, a few dead, and quite a few of the weird ones.

Found one from 2012! Apparently just requires reorienting the drivers to get them to line up like so. I like the simplicity of the wiring.

Anton has used the coated wiring normally used for inductors it seems.
A soldering iron will melt the coating whilst applying solder.
Orientating the piezo's as he has done makes it easy to use such wiring.
If you found that pic in my DR250 build thread, I think I described the way to use ordinary plastic coated wire to wire up the melded arrays using one continuous strand of wire in that thread.
If not, shout out, and I'll tell you...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...
