Sla-Pro's and 24" T48's WOW!

#1 Post by camrynekai »

First off this is not my rig, I have a herd of T48's and O-top 12's ;) ....however my good buddy KDrums decided to go with a BFM rig after hearing mine on several occasions. He didn't require anything as large as my rig but he did decide on the T-48's so that we could cross use the systems for bigger shows. he built the 2 driver SLA's first so that we could do a listen test.....low and behold we were astonished how they sounded after little "Smaart" work. Next step was to purchase the 4 driver version flat packs from Leland and he, as always shipped the kit out like yesterday. We did slightly change the build process of the Sla's by using biscuits for assembly which saved a ton of time. Total build time of the 2 boxes was about 3 hours, not sure how much time it took to do the grills, Duratex, driver and x-over mounting. The review??? there is not enough room on Bill's server to type all the positives comments. Here is a short video taken at 80' from stage with a DSLR camera using its on-board Mic. Other gear used 2 driver Sla pro's for side fills, PLX3602's, DCX2496 and S3L console.

Vocals sound great......

Wonder what would happen if you built a 4 driver SLA with 2 NSD2005s using the horn from an OT12 - think the OT12 crossover would work in that situation?

If that works, it would be tempting to build a 6 driver with 3 horns. Then run the top two sections off one amp and the bottom off another in order to power shade.....unless you could build in an attenuator for the bottom section.

Of course, it would take some widening of the cabinet to fit the 2005 drivers in there and that might mess up the whole design....

hmmmmm.......

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

I wouldn't change a thing with the Sla's, they sound absolutely wonderful!!! and took very little processing to sound that way. piezo's are very comfortable x-over to the little Sla drivers.....just see no need to mess with them at all.

Probably so.....I'm just so leery of tweeter crossed over so high. I keep hearing so many bad sounding boxes. But, the little 6 inch drivers may very well make up for that 1.2 - 2.5khz range that I like from the 2005 driver.
