Twin Jack 12's 3012HO's and T30 3012LF

#1 Post by mems »

Did a Sock Hop for my brothers middle school that he teaches at last night. I wasn't sure how much bass was going to be needed but i brought my T30 at 27"'s wide just in case. Its got the 3012LF in it.

I was setup on a stage that was 4' taller than the dance floor (perfect because the tallest middle schooler was about that height too haha) and the picture gives an approximation of the size of the gig space (i'd appr. about a 30x50 foot gym). I was having an issue with the T30 on set up and I didnt really have enough time to figure it out so I decided to take the Jack's off their sticks and place them on the stage. I've had good luck with decent bass return with them on a floor space so thats what i decided to go with.

I couldnt tell during the gig if my T30 was on or not but I had PLENTY of bass running with just the Jack's. I was asked to turn it down in the beginning but as the crowd got larger, I needed to increase volume a little. (No surprise there.) This picture was about 15 minutes in of the 2 hour gig. Id say by the end I had about 150 kids and parents in the place. According to my brother the sounds was awsome. Clear, even, and perfectly loud in the rear and sides of the gym where parents were mingling. Im thoroughly impressed and this gave me a little more confidence to get out and maybe do a high school gig soon. I'm definitely going to get the CD and start making some DR200's and maybe some half size TLAH's. I'd like to reuse the 3012's that I have since they were expensive but i cant see needing a DR280 for anything that I would be doing. Oh well. Onto the pic,

Totally awesome that this gig worked out for you, mems!

I would suggest that you make adding a matching T30 your 1st priority, though. Bigger kids means poles for the Jacks, so you will need a 2nd T30.

Absolutely, another T30 is of top priority as well. I did a top 40 holiday gig last year and will do it again this year on the 18th of feb in a very small room, 20x30' tops, and ran my single T30 angled towards the corner and the two jacks on sticks and it was overkill. If I move onto high school dances and the like, it would be nice to have the headroom to go big with a vplated set of T30's. I've started a plowing route this year which really helps with the extra cash to put into my setup.

Cool, but I would guess that room is more like 40 x 60 or even 50 x 80 as that door in the corner is approx 3 feet wide alone... (if it's a legal handicap accessible door)

That's a basketball court in there, if the dimensions are more or less the official ones, its 94x50

OK, maybe its smaller lol

Edit:
Here are the dimensions to mark the court by.

An NBA and official NCAA (college) court is 94 ft long and 50 ft wide.
A High School court is 84 ft long and 50 ft wide.
A Junior High court is 74 ft long and 42 ft wide.

I'm gonna have my brother measure it out when he can. Id like a better number so that I know how far I can go with these. Although, the DR200's are still on the building block.
