Well i finally got to use all 4 Dr's together. To make a long story short, after initial set up and some slight EQing,i walked all around the venue and as stated on the DR 250 page, their wasnt a bad seat in the house.I only used 1 T 48 which i aimed at the wall next to the stage. As i was walking around listening,i had to cover my mouth as if i was coughing,i didn't want anybody to see me cheesing like a cheshire cat lol.I limited them at 37 volts and never even got close to that.During initial system testing, some people across the hall asked the people that hired me to turn it down because they couldn't hear their music.I did turn it down because my event wasn't starting for another hour.I played the entire night with 2 yellow lights to spare on my mixing board, unbelieveable.Crown XLS 1500 in stereo, each side paralleled.I'm about to pick a fight with a guy that i know who just went and bought 4 EV Z X 5's,i know he gonna get me on the low end but i don tthink he can mess with that 106 db average sensitivity. When he mentions the lack of bass, thats when i will tell him i have bass and pull out the T 48's.

Nah,they wasn't gonna tip over,i even nudged the poles to make sure, plus having them on a stage,i didn't have to raise them too high.I think the higher you raise them the danger increases but they sit well.

I was thinking of doing this same setup with adjustable tophats until eminence support told me they were only rated for 66 lbs. So if your using adjustable hats please use caution.

I believe 1 DR 250 weighs 40 pounds.Daniel if it was a problem using adjustable top hats in this manner,i think someone on the board would have said something about it by now or did i miss that post ? I do want to construct something that can attach to the top cab in the backand mount it to the poles, they arent as sturdy to me if i raise them high.

I'm just throwing caution in to the wind. The weight capacity I mentioned came right from Eminence, so your putting at least 80 lbs of cab on a tophat thats rated for 66lbs. Even if no one has mentioned it before, would that make it safe?

I'm not knocking the solution, I have the same tophats and I purchased them with the same idea in mind but I stopped short once I got the final word from eminence. Stacking the DR's just the way you have looks sweeeeeeeeeeeet, I definitely like what youve done.

Another solution I have cooked up is a bit cumbersome but much safer and it involves pair of stands per side, two tophat adapters and 3/4" platform secured to the adapters, then you place the DR's with straps on top of the makeshift platform. Is it overkill??? probably, but the stack is less likely to tip over & the weight limit of the adjustable tophat is overcome.

Believe me, if the tophat was rated higher I would definitely do the same setup. Here is a rough drawing of the setup Im talking about. This can be done with a pair of Ultimate Jam stands that are super cheap and the right height. The adaptors are about 20 bucks each, and the cost of two 22x22 3/4" ply for the platform. Like I said, cumbersome but a little safer.

With the right stand (as wide a base as possible) you could get away with one stand and just use a single adapter and a 3/4" platform. The angles would have to be adjusted with wedges between the tops or a solution like Bill has recommended in the Stacking DR's post.
