2510 loaded J10's from Argentina
Hi there! I finally got around and gave the finishing touches to my jacks:
(enjoy the color!)
Some pics of the building process. Lots lost somewhere, this ones survived:
- -

- -
- -
Its my first big build, first BFM boxes and I'm so glad I made them!
LOUD, maniacally loud actually. Those 2510s are amazing in that box, let me tell you.
And CRISTAL CLEAR.
I play bass guitar, just in case you didn't notice.
Took'em outside to the patio the other night to see how loud they could get. With 300watts they sound like they could take any stage I'll ever do (small bars and then some, nothing fancy), perhaps I could even get away with only one cab. Nasty.
Anyways, I'm so gonna enjoy this cabs
thanks Bill and the whole forum for your tips and opinions,
see ya folks!

Very good! And you'll never lose them on-stage LOL. But it's a nice change though, for color, that is.

Hi spongebob1981
These look great.
I'm just starting my first ever J10 build; any good tips please?
Just completed the baffle and moving to the throats etc.
Cheers

You have two ears and one mouth. Use them in the same ratio!!

Re: 2510 loaded J10's from Argentina
Lots of tips actually:
1) READ THE PLANS
2) STICK TO THE PLANS
3) STICK TO THE PLANS
lol
but I mean it XD
4) Get a meassuring tool in inches if you use metric in your country. Straight edges and squaring tools are a great thing to have around.
5) Get the adhesive suggested in the plans. If not, get samples from others and make a few test runs on scrap wood. This is important.
6) Have the right tools and a clean workspace.
7) Your fingers are more expensive than any pro cab built to spec by a pro. Use power tools with great care.
specifics now:
When trying to screw 2 parts that you just aply adhesive to, put some staples in angle (one tooth of the staple in each part), 5 to 10 will do. That will keep the parts in place until the pilot hole and screw go in. Then you can remove the staples (Before the adhesive cures). Later, the screws can go too.
9) After the adhesive cures, if in doubt (specially if you dont have access to the true PL Premium and have to fall back to other adhesive) use a sealant in the joints. I used a hot silicon gun with good results. Specially in zones where access will be difficult afterwards. (corners!!). Do it right when building, Afterwards it will be more difficult.
10) Do a test run of the cab with the proper driver installed (filler installed) right before carpeting of padding the interior, to test for leaks. Afterwards it will be more difficult.
11) I found that the building of the throat is easy to build if you do something like this: clamp the small panels to the table, present the side over them, drill small pilot holes for the screws, apply adhesive and put0the side panel in place. Use small nails through the pilot holes to keep the panel from sliding off position while driving screws. Remove a nail, put a screw. Follow with the next one. Then turn around the piece and clamp the side to the table and repeat. (Second to last pic) Hope it makes sense.
12) If using a metal grill in the baffle take its thickness into account (IITP). Place the grid over the baffle, staple it and use PLENTY of adhesive along the parts where the throat will meet. Sealing that place afterwards will be a PITA. Plan ahead and install the throat right afterwards!
If you mess up with the thickness of the grill like I did and the throat and mouth panels dont go exactly over the markings you made along the bottom/top of the cab is not that big of a deal, do your best to keep the inner volume and angles as close to the plans as posible though. It will be ok.
Hope this helps. see ya and good build!

That's a build to be proud of, for sure! Very cool and vibrant, warm color.
Can't really tell but you must have painted the filler black on the top and bottom. I only have one suggestion: get some padding on the baffle around the driver due to it being parallel with the back piece. The reason I say this is because I did not put it there and couple places (just very thin foam) and it really did have a lot more nasally midrangey tones in the cab that I could not EQ out without killing the tone. It was louder with those internal mids bouncing around, but I could not EQ them out.
If you're going to use it with your tube amps, do tell more. I know you're doing some amp projects.
Great job! Oh...I liked the staple tip! Those glued pieces are real slippery and caused me a PAIN a few times.

love the orange! really sticks out. is that paint or a vinyl covering? it looks like it has leather like creases, but that could be the wood grain! very cool!
Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

99% of the time, things that aren't already being done aren't being done because they don't work. The other 1% is split evenly between fools and geniuses.

Thanks! Tolex is not really available here, this is simple leatherette.
Cloth backened, contact cement glued. Cool looking but not terribly durable.
(If anyone is interested I can ship it in exchange for some Duratex goods lol+sad)
No water-based poliurethane paint is available either, thinking of giving automotive paints a try for next build.
Next in list to try will be some tough cloth damp in "heavy transit" polyurethane veneer. That will be heavy though...

+1 to what everyone else has said regarding how nice those cabs are!
I don't know if you have tried it with one cab yet, but I doubt you will use only one at shows. Two cabs are not just louder, they sound a lot better.spongebob1981 wrote:....perhaps I could even get away with only one cab. Nasty.
