Omni or OmniTop?

#1 Post by Bill Fitzmaurice »

Definitive SPL charts are shown in the SPL section.

Simply put, Omni 10, 12 and 15 are designed to be used as full range cabs without subwoofer support. The Omni 10 is small enough, however, that it can go with or without a sub, especially in the 1x10 O10.5 version.

OmniTop 12 is designed for use with a sub, though it can go it alone in a small vocal only PA.

OmniTop 15 can run without a sub where extreme low bass levels are not required. It will also handle bass guitar. If you're running live-sound PA in small to medium venues and want to go without subs the OTop 15 will do nicely. But DJs will be better off with a separate sub/top, as will high power live-sound PAs, and in those cases the stronger midrange response of the OTop 12 makes it the better choice.

The OTop 12 can be built as a 1x12 or 2x12, the OTop 15 as a 1x15 or 2x15. Response of a 2x is the same as a stacked pair of 1x, going with a 2x rather than a pair of 1x is purely a matter of personal preference.
