Show me your braces!

#1 Post by J_Dunavin » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:45 pm

And I don't mean your orthodontist work either.
I'm getting ready to finish up my T45 build ( will post pictures in the build thread) but I want to do something different / cool in the mouth bracing area.
Looking fir some inspiration.
Thanks

My bestest looking are a just a curved front and a couple holes drilled out. Now that I have access to a CNC, the sky's the limit. :fruit:

Bottom of page 2 in my T60 build thread in my signature are pictures of how I did mine. All made from ~2" strips of baltic bitrch. IMO rounding over all the edges of the braces with a router looks the best in person. Gives it a nice finished look. I used a metallic paint on my mouth and braces, nothing fancy, picked up a gallon at home depot used for faux finishing walls. Best comment from the crowd ever that I over heard was someone saying to another, "Man that's a lot of tig welding!" . Lol
Built:
17" width 10" driver Autotuba
2 x 29" width dual Lab12 Tuba60
6 x DR250 2510/asd1001
In progress:
2 x DR250 2510/asd1001
For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience

I brought the front brace further forward too, it sits back the same as the one in the plans but I think it just looks prettier...

^ I'll try and fish out the finished photos of those!

*edit: not particularly high quality as they're off my instagram but you get the idea I think.

Not the same cabinet, but here's how I did the last set of T48's I built:

First post on the forums, waiting to do a big build thread, but here's a look at my braces, which I'm pretty happy with. Used a couple sizes of hole saw for the radiused corners, then a jigsaw to cut the straight bits. Finished with a roundover bit in the router, and voila!

(sorry, there's some back focus in that image, I don't have a better shot on me now)
