OT12s are great, but they go very loud and will far outrun your pair of T30s. I'd say if you intend on extending your T30 collection to four, then yes build the OT12s. Otherwise they will be sitting below 1/2 volume most of their lives.. might be better to consider a smaller top, like a SLA pro or something. Just a thought.
Built:
6 T30 (24", 3012LF)

DCX2496
XTi 2002
XTi 4002
TRAKTOR Z2
TECHNICS 1210 Mk5's

This tells me you have not read the subwoofer placement sticky.

It also tells me you really aren't sure how to properly run your sound PA. The 515XT has got to be one of the worst-sounding boxes Harmon-Kardon has ever released to the public. Do yourself a HUGE favor, and build yourself a pair of OTop 12s. Sell the JBLs, buy yourself a proper DSP and a lightweight 2 channel amp. Having bought this little set for app. 400,- EUR (used), I'm pretty shure not to run out of power in the near future... 4 x 1600+ watt in 4 ohm lets you play around with cabs with 8 and 4 ohm drivers, before you have to invest in another amp!
Furthermore you HAVE to read and UNDERSTAND the "Subwoofer Placement" sticky! It just makes all the difference how you line up your bass horns!

I like what you did with the mouth braces. Did you improvise them or were they included in the older plans?

Side note, what glue are you using? PL premium doesn't match the color in the photo, but I know it could be different if outside the US.

Padde (and anyone else this may apply to),
Please be aware, for Bill's designs, well, really, for any design where you could set a voltage limit, there is such a thing as to much power!
Based on the specs quoted, 1220W/8 ohms = 98V, and 1600W/4ohms = 80V.
Let's say an 8 ohm driver has a limit of 50V.
With one cab, on one channel of your amp, that means you need to limit by 48V!
While that may be achievable with your DCX (I"m not sure you can limit that much), it will most likely mean you are constantly engaging the limiter just to run your cab, and that's bad.
2 x 50V limited 8 ohm drivers in parallel is 4 ohms, and with a 80V output at 4 ohms, you have reduced the amount of limiting to 30V. That might be more within the capabilities of the DCX, and mean you are not constantly hitting the limiter.

What are your current settings and have you ever seen the limiter light engaged?
Built:
DR 250: x 2 (melded array) with March 2012 plans. 2 more under way with CD horn
T39's: 4 x 20" BP102 , 2 x 28" 3012lf.
WH8: x 3 with melded array.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Why shouldn"t you just pit one of the gains right and use a limiter? (A gain without a knob ofcourse)

A number of us, but not everyone, advocates settings attenuators to max when setting limiters.
That way, there is never a "surprise" when the fella trying to be helpful turns to you and says "i've fixed the volume for you", and suddenly... silence.
Even without a knob, the post in the middle of the pot can be turned.
It's simply amazing just how many people in the world know how to run pro PA properly :?

You can do it as you suggest, but I would put the pots in the case if I did that.

Or buy the right power amp in the first place.

Something to be aware of...

I do indeed have this specific problem in my set up. I therefore never turn the attenutators of the amp up full. The DCX can't handle a limitation in that range. I am driving TAT with the TSA 4x1300, which is TOTALLY overkill! :horse:
But to answer your question; I always have the limiter enganged on the sub out! The small 8" would probably not last too long if I didn't. Having calculated the voltage limit of the drivers, and have set the limiter accordingly (with the amp only turned up halfway. It leaves the door open for someone to turn them up further, which could kill the drivers. But the TSA 4x1300 was bought before the build of the TAT (love them <3), and they are actually built for a totally different set-up..: my sound bike. Let's hope they live that long... :loler: :loler: :loler:

Hi Chris I designed the braces myself , just didn't like the original one , thought it needed spicing up a little , just used PU glue nothing special .

Nice! Any reason why one has a speaker mount and the other doesn't?

Perhaps he knows that if he does have occasion to put a top above one sub the second sub should be clustered next to it.
