McIntosh MC225 for a pair of Tubas?

#1 Post by doc » Tue Aug 13, 2019 11:23 am

I've just ordered my plans from Bill and am starting to think about amplification. I'll be running La Scala IIs with a McIntosh MC225 along with a pair of Tubas, most likely Table Tubas at 21" with 10s.

I was thinking it might be nice aesthetically to run another MC225 for the Tubas as well. I realize I don't "need" a tube amp for subwoofers and this could be done in a more cost efficient manner, however, does anyone have experience running Tubas with a ~25 wpc tube amp? I know they are super efficient so I'm thinking this will work just fine.

It will work, but no better than far less expensive options. Whatever differences that may exist between SS and tube don't occur below 100Hz.
