Re: blown driver issues
#1. Certain amps without a speaker attached can output far more voltage than they can drive into a load without crapping out. A reading over 100v isn’t uncommon with no load. #2. LImiters are only a protection against overexcursion. A speaker can fail from thermal damage even if it never reaches its...

Re: Why shouldn’t one use MDF in pro speaker cabs?
MDF has it's place, and that's in the home. It takes veneer better than plywood, so if you're going to veneer, the cab is never going to be moved, and it's safe from getting wet use MDF. The only reason to use MDF in pro-sound cabs is because it's cheap. If they skimp on the cab material they skimp...

Why shouldn’t one use MDF in pro speaker cabs?
Uptown Funk is why. If it ever gets wet (as these did) and Uptown funk is played, you get sawdust. These are Baltic birch cabs coated with duratex. Except for the handle cups apparently. I’ll have to have a word with the guy that built them. Notice the way it shredded. The Duratex had to be holding ...

Re: Background music remote control ?
You can use a VNC or TeamViewer type app to remotely control a computer for playback. TeamViewer requires an internet connection but Would let you control the pc from anywhere you have an internet connection, not just WiFi.

Re: A Second First Date (DR200s with Ribbons)
Hey BE; Which ribbons did you use? That vid sounds great..... Jujuman Dayton PT2C-8, 2 per cab in series. Spacing was done so that when stacked, the individual ribbons are equidistant. This means they're cheated slightly to the outside from perfect center on the cab. Are there any issues with the r...

Re: Cinco de Mayo gig
I think everyone missed the funny part. his rig is 12,000 watts. we plugged my system and lights into the one provided extension cord for both band and DJ, his rig is 12,000 watts. No. No, it was not. Would have been great to school him on that a bit. Of course he was probably using the standard “ad...

Re: Behringer NX6000 vs Qsc GX7
So Qsc would be the choice Thanks GX7 is far more versatile than the NX6000 but on shore power the performance is fairly similar. Only on generator will you see a huge difference. Reliability is about the same. I have a GX and two NUs in my shop right now that need to go to warranty repair. The num...

Re: Brand dormancy
Most people around here probably realize that you can't tell squat from a YouTube video. I made one way back when, it still gets a comment here and there (just had one the other day). It never did the rig justice. The reality is that most people make videos of their audio gear to show off how much t...

Re: What is going on here?
Indeed. The newer ones do all the famous Hammonds... a100,b3,c3, etc, along with emulation of every type of Leslie cab ever made. Hammond even has one with 88keys and a pretty good ser of piano patches. Id live to have one but they're relatively pricey.

Re: What is going on here?
IDK, maybe out front though the PA or on a recording. When you stand next to a leslie the sound gets sprayed around the room, highs and lows in different directions all spinning around and bouncing off the walls and different surfaces. The doppler effect could easily be reproduces but no way you co...

Re: What is going on here?
These days it’s rare to tour with a real one, but the Leslie sound is well sampled and synthesized by various keyboards. Hammond (now part of Suzuki) still sells digital organs that have controls very similar to the B3 but do all,of the synthesis digitally and are virtually indistinguishable sonical...

Re: Calling all Karaoke gurus
Yeah. I’ve never run it but that all that sounds about right. I’d get something like an Xr12 so you can have IPad control and some decent effects. Don’t use wireless mics, or even good mics. They’ll get destroyed. Buy some $20 mics (behringer’s xm1800 and 8500 are decent for karaoke and cheap). Keep...

Re: Calling all Karaoke gurus
Using YouTube videos violates their TOS and is a great way to have a failure during a show. If you do a subscription service, make sure you are paying for an appropriate level of service. Some of them offer a “home” license which would not cover public performance like that. A client of mine uses Ka...

Re: Question for signal processing gurus
Ok, you have an analogue mixer (or two), cool. Set up a compressor to duck the music channels (if you're not sure how, google it, there's lots of info on the net about ducking) but add EQ as well to the input side of the compressor, tailored to vocals frequencies only. You should be able to get tha...
