Re: Very nice and cheap Speakon Connectors and Sockets
I'll use the knockoffs in permanently installed amp racks if needed (more and more amps are coming without binding posts) but for portable applications, neutrik is the way to go.

Re: Getting pub smoke out of gear.
Well, half a gallon of vinegar and almost a whole bottle of Febreze later, and the worst of it has abated. I can walk into the trailer without a gas mask (I did actually have to put on a painter's respirator to start the job) and the only thing that has a whiff of smoke are the speaker grills and pa...

Re: Getting pub smoke out of gear.
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I don't do pub gigs, most of my clients are churches, and you can't stink up a church like that. This was a dry rental, so I wasn't thinking about that part of it. Plus, in our state smoking in most commercial buildings has been banned for years. This was out of st...

Getting pub smoke out of gear.
A friend of mine rented my rig to do a show earlier this week. While the gear came back in good condition functionally, the wretched smell of smoke billowed from my trailer when I opened it. I can't even stand to get close to the doors at the moment without retching, but I managed to get a fan in th...

Re: Analog signal path
So what you're trying to do is add distortion at every turn? :conf: Here's the deal. If you're using any tops other than high end studio monitors, you are already coloring the sound beyond the point where it matters. Analog processing will just add unwanted noise and color to that. Use a driverack, ...

Re: Soundtracs Topaz Project 8
Agreed. For less than you'd have to put into it in outboard gear to make it work properly, you could buy an Si Impact and stagebox and have a better rig.

Re: Looking for a wire vendor...
I can get 12/4 in 500ft spools for $350. .70/ft is an excellent price, but they only sell it in spools. The next closest price I've found is .88/ft after shipping at 250', but that's enough of a difference that buying the larger spool is almost worth it. Rapco is still more than that at dealer cost....

Looking for a wire vendor...
So someone broke into my trailer a while ago and took most of my copper and my safety cables. 1200 feet of extension cords and all of my NL8 and NL4 that was stored in there.... :cussing: At least most of my NL4 was out on a gig. They were kind enough to leave my Cat5 and all of the 2 conductor spea...

Messages stay in your outbox until they are opened by the other party. Perfectly normal.

Re: Shopping for a New Mixer
Given your requirements, I guess the Mackie Axis system is a potential contender as well: http://mackie.com/products/mackie-axis DL32R + a control surface... That's a much more expensive solution, and it has a less complete control surface. Granted, it includes the stage box, which is an additional...

Re: Shopping for a New Mixer
Do you know if the Soundcraft will support multiple ipad/iphone connections to allow performers to mix their own monitors? It does, and there is an iPhone app specifically for that. The Qu supports the ME1 for personal monitor mixes in addition to the mix busses. You can use as many of those as you...

Re: Shopping for a New Mixer
There really aren't any consoles which tick all of your boxes in the entry-level realm. The one that comes closest is technically the X32, BUT... there are caveats.. You can use the Matrix outputs to do rudimentary crossovers but there are not many choices for slope, and no brickwall limite. You hav...

Re: Possible New Speaker Design???
There are benefits using two HF drivers (in addition to them fitting in the cabinet better). While a single driver can match in output, with two, you have half the power going to each to accomplish the same goal. Additionally, the more drivers you have in an array, the smoother the response becomes....

Re: Possible New Speaker Design???
Maybe try the compression driver horns, using (if you're not already) premium drivers throughout (not the cheap eminence ones) and running them biamped with a good DSP crossover. Start from scratch and set them up properly and use an analyzer in an open field to tune them flat as a starting point. Y...

Re: 5000vz on 6x Impero 12s
Looks bout right. You could theoretically go a little larger, but you wouldn't see a big improvement. As Always, if they distort, you're out of gas pedal, so slow down.
