Re: Titan 48 for 12v build// No Labs in the UK
Now run the numbers for the two specific driver/impedance/voltage scenarios that we're actually discussing. I take it that was also aimed at me. If you have something to say, then say it. My post wasn't even directed to you. So if you want the numbers run, then off you go with it. Other than that, ...

Re: Titan 48 for 12v build// No Labs in the UK
Other than that I don't really follow the rest of the argument. The whole 12v world is geared toward lowering the impedance and getting more out the lower volts. But I also do admit I'm not that knowledgeable so might have missed somethings. The whole 12V world has been brought about by necessity, ...

Re: Titan 48 for 12v build// No Labs in the UK
I can't answer for Bill. But, I would guess that he was unaware that your current amplifier is rated for a 1Ω load when he made the comment. Personally, I can't think of a reason to not "go down the 2 ohm road" given your individual set of circumstances... unless the cab could be part of ...

Re: Titan 48 for 12v build// No Labs in the UK
Want slammin subs at home for that impromptu party? Build a T48 with a 3015lf, just the one. Then you can run it on a "proper" amp with mains power, or throw it on the cart. An 8 ohm speaker should still make plenty of noise with a 4 ohm amp. An amps minimum impedance is the concern, and y...

Re: Limit mismatch for 12NLW9300
We run 4 boxes each pair in parallel, so I assume this would turn each pair into 4ohm 800w. But I see the driver specs state a minimum load of 5.7ohm. So I guess my question is, is it because of the speaker / cab combination and the fact that we run them on different "limit" values that a...

Re: Limit mismatch for 12NLW9300
And, to put it into proportion:
A few extra volts at the top end of output is probably wasted in power compression anyway.
Whereas adding another cab with a driver capable of 70V is going to add, at a minimum, +3dB...

Re: Titanous Tuba... Tuba-ous Titan
Does "loud/low/small- pick 2" ring a bell? Loud and low has to be big. And, to what end? Live music doesn't need it. Recorded music may, but since a doubling of cabs adds +6dB, or there is free output to be gained in width, why chew up so much ply on 1 cab for something that might not equa...

Re: Simulating T48 in hornresp
I don't know about other places on the planet Glad you brought that up. The OP is in Belgium. I wonder if plywood there has the same problems as in the USA? I have a feeling, IIRC, that the OP should look for Finnish ply, rather than Baltic Birch. By far lighter, as internal panels (which is where ...

Re: Simulating T48 in hornresp
I am not trying to modify the plans, just look how they work, and why certain decisions have been made. It's one thing to learn how to use a sim programme. It's quite another thing to know how to vary the result to achieve a better outcome. Bill designs or has designed a number of large company nam...

Re: Simulating T48 in hornresp
What you are referring to is pretty much a problem anywhere in the world outside the USA. Because of that, many of us waste countless hours looking for drivers based on what we consider to be reasonable cost, but they are compromises. Often said here; Buy once, cry once. I wonder if you have plans y...

Re: Old Dog Learns New Trick
A long time mate has an F hole Maton acoustic/electric. Even though it was guitar no 1, I think that's wife no 2. Wife No1 is his 57 strat. I understand your reluctance to not buy without playing. Maton are remarkably uniform guitar to guitar sound wise I find, but the odd one has a tinny shrill to ...

Re: Old Dog Learns New Trick
Good on you Bruce!
In no particular order, I'm impressed with:
You remembered the tip jar, and real money went in it.
You got a looper.
You chose the Maton.
You admit to using Berry.
Oh, yeah, thanks for the laugh.
Glad it went well for you...

Re: Powersoft T604A
About going to 6... IMHO, it's not worth the effort to build, nor the expense, of 2 more cabs when the same increase could be gained by adding a V plate. You see, a doubling of cabs adds +6dB, so half of that in this case is +3dB. Adding a V plate is +3dB. While we're at it, absolutely no point in p...

Re: Powersoft T604A
Forget peak voltage and clip voltage if they are greater than the maximum allowable displacement voltage limit in the plans, ie 80V/driver. Don't use them, make them null. You are after brick wall limiting, ie, once set, it doesn't matter what you do to mixer faders or whatever, the maximum voltage ...
