Re: Home theater setup - TLAH, Curved SLA, SLA, THT

Yes, it is MDF. The paint soaking in differently, aka fluffing some areas. You should definitely use a sanding sealer with mdf. You brush or roll it on, and it dries fast. It soaks into the mdf and dries hard to prevent the paint from soaking in and expanding the surface. Lightly sand the sanding s...

Re: Yet Another Table Tuba Build

What if you installed a(nother) horn around the chamber opening? It would probably have to be as long as the front horn to do anything, but I'm throwing darts in the dark here. If the extra rear horn path was as long as the front there would be serious wave cancellations as it would be 180 degrees ...

Re: Home theater setup - TLAH, Curved SLA, SLA, THT

you can also take a fine tooth hand saw or hack saw and trim the plastic cover of the tweeter until it fits. A chop saw with a plywood blade and a stop block works good if you are careful and cut slow. The cut won't show if it is rear mount.

Re: 4 THT's

I'd be interested in hearing what other people have done for equalization :?: I have a calibrated Behringer microphone with a reasonable focusrite USB soundcard and a collection of software including ARTA. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but with the THT for equalization, all you need do is ...

Re: 4 THT's

A tip, I found some "plugs" for adhesive/caulk tubes in Home Depot, very long center pin with an airtight seal on top, they should work, I'll report on the effectiveness. I bought this one, it works alright for awhile. The PL tube pressure will blow this tip off the tube unless you store ...

Re: Narrow THT Build Follow up?

How did this cabinet end up? The build was impeccable. The selected driver was a little out of spec. I hope there was a happy ending to all this effort. We are left hanging... :conf:

Re: Wedgehorn 8's w/ horn finishing option

Bill's plans are a lesson on both being patient and following directions. If you are not patient in reading and following the directions, it will bite you.

The good news is PL and Duratex will fix and cover up most mistakes

Re: Narrow THT Build

I have built a ton of cabinets, and the only joints that really need to be air tight and perfect for cabinets are the face frame butt joints, which really isn't that many joints or that many linear inches of perfectly tight butt joints per cabinet. The rest of the cabinet joints are in some sort of ...

What? They don't have Deschutes Black Butte Porter there?
If you are going to go with dark stain you should go dark beer...

Unless, for safety reasons, you purposely go the opposite so you don't accidentally drink a swig of stain while working.

Re: Table Tuba 18 inch starts

Started glue up tonight. I haven't added baffle panel...so I'm completing it out of strict order. It is very important that you test fit the driver into the baffle opening with all the screws to check for clearance and rubbing and make clearance adjustments if needed. Don't install so many panels t...

Part III Now for the fun and sawdust in the house. Time to cut the hole in the floor after careful measurements and some pilot holes to find the I-beams. The goal is not to cut any part of the I-beams. http://s24.postimg.org/4josx3cl1/IMAG0997.jpg free picture hosting Mini Sawsled works perfect for...

33" THT Build Under Floor Mount

New THT build to be mounted under the floor firing up. Since it won't be taking up any floor space, I am going to make it as big as possible. 33" wide will just fit into the house to test and will also just fit the crawl space door. I will build it, test it above the floor to find the best spot...

It’s a strange sensation off-loading x2 18-inch pro subs for a single 8-inch sub….[/quote]

....and off-loading the big pro amp that ran the 2x 18's.
You will only need a little 200w or 250w amp now.

Re: Modded Table Tuba Idea. Good or Bad? Suggestions?

Maybe we need to have our First Annual BFM Autosound SPL Drag competition to figure out who is right  . Loudest dB (20 Hz - 100 Hz) with lets say a 500 watt amp or $500 total cost wins? Maximum combined outside size box let's say 36" by 48" by 40" or 40 cubic feet total. That...
