Re: EQ-ing mic comparison

As far as I know the driverack can only be used with a dbx mic because it has a built in 'calibration file' (which cannot be changed). So if you use other mics that have another curve, the end result won't be flat. Calibrating a mic won't help you if you use a driverack. It will when you use softwa...

EQ-ing mic comparison

Just thought I'd compare a few different microphone options for EQ-ing my new W8's. The graph shows 3 different mic's on a comparative basis, not an absolute measurement - it was done in a garage with boundaries around. They were made using a Frequency plotter iPad app, and I took the results off th...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

Well, I've finally got there. Managed to find 3 to 4 dB difference for setting polarity of tweeters to woofer - don't know whether draped sheets would have helped, but I had to fish around in the air to find the peak with big polarity options - slowly moving the meter around. The wood strip and then...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

Nice paintjob! Final bits and pieces and don't be to harsh on yourself otherwise the 80/20 rule kicks in and will the last 20% of work take 80% of the total project time. Enjoy finishing them and listening! Thanks. Your self is the safest person to be hard on, when all said and done. The las...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

I thought installing the driver fixings might be a bit more straightforward with using torx headed screws, and a normal L-shaped allen key type drive, but it has still proved difficult. A hex headed screw would be even better probably, due to the distance between universal joint pivot and socket bei...

Re: Zumba J15 build with CD

The solder joints for the cap look like they could be redone. I would try that first, just to be sure. +1 Soldering multi strand copper.wire to the single thicker wires of the components is not easy. I'm no soldering expert, but I've found that an hot iron is best, and to use a bit of molten solder...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

I finished the last tensioning operation this morning on the mesh screens. It was possible to not put a retaining peg on every gripper rod spike - the spikes in between stayed engaged in the mesh, so this made it only a 10 minute job for each side, plus a bit for gluing and nailing the battens on. A...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

I did the painting: 2 coats in the horn and 3 externally, with the textured roller - I still had grain bleed with 2 coats but it won't be seen behind the mesh grill cloth. It's the best finish I've ever had on the external surfaces. On to the corner protectors. Borrowed my brothers mitre saw. Finall...

Nice work. It's fairly obvious that you have a good feel at working with the wood. Well done.

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

The cabs and front removable frames are ready for paint. Also made up the filters. One thing I like about building these cabs is working out what order things need doing in. I know it's in the plans, but it's the details that I seem to end up thinking about. One of which was where I needed to put th...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

Sorry I've not been on this. Other things took over for 6 months, including a new job. However, some free time has come up, from the job - it's a long story and takes some explaining! Anyway, I had some GRS piezos to test so I got the little double pole switch testing rig out I used a few years back...

Re: Thomann 4 channel t.amp TSA 4-700

Thanks DJ.

I was talking to a friend last night and he said that subs and tops are best not run on the same amp due to crosstalk, mainly from sub signal harmonics interfering with tops signal in the amp. Is this specific subs to tops crosstalk audible?

Re: Thomann 4 channel t.amp TSA 4-700

I've had a check in my mind about the TSA 4-700 after reading reviews. They say it can be noisy if the inputs are set wide open. I know there's different schools of thought on that - settings the amp inputs to the max - but I don't want to be overly compromising by taking an easy catch-all solution,...

Thomann 4 channel t.amp TSA 4-700

I think it may be new amp time. I bought a second hand matrix uk power 1300 a few years back and it needed fixing with capacitors. Then on my annual outside gig last year I only measured about 28volts and it was 'clipping' - it was on tops duty so it was just about coping - that amp should be good f...

Re: Wedgehorn 8's

I've fixed the horns in the shells and done a bit of rounding over, the latter being a new year's Eve treat. Well, it was either that, or doing my forex trading course tutorials.

Old lang zyne folks.
