Good idea, though as you've found out the heavy wire takes too much heat to solder and that will damage tweeters. Use 18 to 24 gauge wire. I was pretty surprised to find it there. I had to pull out the glasses and double check.

Are those prices about normal? Didn't seem too bad considering what basic lumber costs these days.
