Re: OmniTop 12 build

That is an amazingly clean cut with a jigsaw.

Re: J210 Lite Build

That really sounds like a fun bass. I have built several basses and one guitar from parts. If you are willing to invest the time, there are few better ways to get just what you want and nothing you don't. Very unique, and sounds like its a great player.

Re: J210 Lite Build

That is a great looking rig. I have something similar in mind, and hope my outcome will be half a good ;-)

I am intrigued by your bass...early 50s precision but with a split coil in the neck position and a jazz pup in the bridge position. Ebony no-marker board... Is that a custom creation as well?

Re: 2x Jack 12 Lite build

Braces.jpg Very slow progress. I work outside, and only when I get a chance so I try to use as few tools as possible. Today was primarily the table router. I had previously cut 12 horn braces. Cut the remaining 8 today. Used the method in the plans to cut one throat sheath brace from a circle made ...

Re: OmniTop 12 build

I grew up a hayseed in rural Washington state, and learned to ski in the wet snows of Oregon. Scotchguard on jeans for skiing sounds just like something one of us would have tried. Can't imagine anyone actually buying Levi's ski jeans though, even out west. Maybe in LA...

Re: Throat Sheath Brace Size

In an abundance of caution, I made a paper sheath brace using a 5" radius and a 5.125" radius. You can see that the 5.125 radius is slightly flatter...but at it's most profound, the difference is about 1/32". I generally think I am doing well when my errors are in this range ;-)

Throat Sheath Brace Size

I realized that I have two circles with a 5 1/8" radius left over after cutting out my woofer spacers. The throat sheath braces are to be cut from a 5" radius circles. Is 5 1/8" close enough, or should I trim them?

horn brace placement J12L

May be a dumb question, but I was thinking that I might build a horn brace placement jig to get the braces exactly even... and I noticed that the plan says to place them "spaced evenly, roughly 4 1/2 inches apart." If they are spaced evenly, though, shouldn't they be closer to 4" apar...

Re: Wood Prices Update 2023

...Poplar is very good, but has always been hard to find. Perhaps this Garnica brand is expanding to fill the BB void. They guy in the vid says it's available everywhere and gives a website. He's in NE FL, and I am in SE FL so I had high hopes.... But the website is for Garnica products, not necess...

Re: J210 Lite Build

I have the Craftsman version of a Milescraft jig. Just saw it on Amazon for $38 which is a steal. I bought mine as part of a kit that had a lot of useless plastic pattern following junk that I have never successfully used. But the large circle cutting jig is just great, very precise and very stable....

Re: J210 Lite Build

you certainly have a steady hand on the jig saw. I may try the circle sled for the next circle that needs cutting. I do all my cutting outdoors, and don't have any form of dust extraction, so the router may not be that much worse than the table saw. I can see how using the tool with the better dust ...
