Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Thanks Seth. There are pictures of my crossovers on the previous page of this thread, you kindly double checked them when I was concerned about my hissing tweeter.

Thanks Bill, that's good to knowBill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 1:12 pm The crossover can't cause damage to the woofer. Only over-powering or being dropped can do that.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
To elaborate when you said 'Connected full range straight to the jack , I feel there is noticeable improvement.' there should be no difference in the low end response. The low pass filter has no effect below 2kHz. With the noticeable improvement, I feel the first woofer may be faulty or damaged. My...

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Two, 2 pole SpeakOn's, one wire lead off each tab, the positive lead's of the two SpeakOn's are connected together, the negative lead's of the two SpeakOn's are connected together, then the resultant combined positive and negative lead's go to the input's of the crossovers. If that's correct... tha...

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
In the plans, Bill connects the low pass board to the one jack, and the High pass board to the other jack with wires linking the two Jack's. 20230629_174628.jpg What I have hopefully done is parallel the second jack with the first, and then split the cables coming from the first jack to feed the sep...

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Sorry for my poor diagram.
The +1 and -1 are the connections on the speakon sockets and the wires go to the crossover inputs.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Me again 🤣 I haven't been happy with the sound of my cab, it lacks low end and sounds nasal.I originally intended to build two 1x12 cabs so have a spare 3012HO. Connected full range straight to the jack , I feel there is noticeable improvement. My concern is that I have somehow damaged the original ...

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Thanks for the help guys.
I think the hiss is probably just normal hiss, created by my amps.
Having not had a cab with a tweeter before, I was surprised and concerned about it.
As Bill said, I probably won't run the tweeter very high, so I will live with it.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
20230529_111748.jpg 20230529_111915.jpg These are my crossover boards I've rechecked the drawings and connections. I believe all is OK, but feel free to point out any errors. I've searched online and it appears hiss is quite common when using tweeters, I've never had a cab with one before. Thanks f...

I will pull the crossovers out and get some photos when I have time.
Yes, the L pad acts as a volume control for the hiss.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Thanks for your replies. I am getting hiss with just the amp connected to the cab, no bass connected. I still have hiss with the gain and master volume turned fully down. The hiss gets louder as I increase the master volume. I am getting the same results with both of my amps, a 90s Trace Elliot and ...

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
Well I've finally got my cab to a functional stage, the end is in sight
I am using a 3012HO and a BGH25 with Bill's crossover design and an L-pad..
I am getting a fair amount of hiss from the tweeter, is this normal, or have I messed up somewhere?

Re: Simplexx 1x12 questions
There's a better way to do it, now that I think about it. Get this app on your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dom.audioanalyzer Set it to Spectrum Analyzer, 1/3 octave, C Weighting, Slow Response. Download a Pink Noise generator, play it through your amp/speaker. Then foll...
