Re: T39 Lite - worth the gamble? - maybe
thanks for the advice, and don't worry, I have no intention of "redesigning" the speaker:) We'll follow the instructions and keep to the dimensions, but may go for some weight reduction on the bracing, as the OP did - nothing dramatic.

Re: T39 Lite - worth the gamble? - maybe
Cheers, Harley. I'm very encouraged by all this. I'm going to go for a lighter and less powerful driver, and the lightest decent ply I can find/afford, but I'm going to build it as per the instructions, because I don't have the experience. Having said that, I'm enlisting the help of a friend for the...

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
Cheers for the info - it's decided, then! I'll stick to a narrow format, because it'll fit in my van, but go for a 12" speaker. I'll see what the suggested drivers/parameters are before going any further.

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
I'd like to just return to my original question, before I go ahead and order the plans. I'm more or less decided on a single T39, built as: - 39 x 19.5 x 16" in size - 4 ohm 10"/12" driver, hopefully neo-magneted. I presume the plans will help my driver decision - poplar ply to reduce...

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
I got this (page 11, incl graph): Another desirable consequence of diffuse radiation together with wide directivity is that in a given room the acoustic output, and hence loudness, of an NXT panel falls away more slowly with increasing speaker-listener distance than is the case with a diaphragm vibr...

Re: T39 Lite - worth the gamble? - maybe
hi there, I'm new to the world of BFM, and contemplating my first build - a single T39 to be driven by an auto amp and leisure battery. I'm hoping to make it as light as practical (not possible , given my novice statu) so was wondering what the final conclusion was with your T39s - I can't find anyt...

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions - i'll have to work through them now... Chris - a bit gutted about the TAT unsuitability, but very glad I now know DJPhantom - I think the T45 is overkill for me, as the thing will have to live in my small house most of the time, and I can't pick up heavy spe...

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
No need to say sorry - no offence taken! Once it's all up and working I will, no doubt, let everyone know how it sounds. I'll primarily be using it to play old psychedelic/post-punk/krautrock and the like, with some electronic music thrown in, but I'm not expecting to rinse out breaks for hours at a...

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
Thanks again for your interest and advice. I think, in practice, the panels will be fine for my purposes, as their omnidirectional output and slow dB falloff is ideal for outdoor environments. As I mentioned, I've checked them out in my garden and think they're fine. I just need some efficient bass....

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
I've just found this: http://www.mydukkan.com/urunler_detay.asp?id=17855&gid=4128#.VAruSaMzIt0 which includes a slightly mashed up SPL rating - is that 1W or max? - but may give you some idea. My impression is a lot of "presence" for little power. All the best - and good luck with your...

Re: Hi from Cambridge, UK
Hi there! I've actually already bought the panel speakers - second-hand - and tested them out in the garden. I'm really impressed, they don't produce the punchy , high-SPL sound of a conventional direct radiator, but the sound fills the space around them and is clear and musical, not at all "fo...

Hi from Cambridge, UK
Hot on the heels of Oxonjohn, I've just registered with BFM, partly out of a general interest in speaker design, and partly because of a specific requirement. So you've picked up Oxford and Cambridge inside 24 hours! I'm looking to put together a small PA system for use at parties, both indoors and ...
