Re: T18 Rebuild thread.

Now, to fit the DCS 205-4 driver. You may have already guessed that this would be the Achilles heal for the project. Without having a full panel 2 out of the box, where I could fit the driver centered over the hole and predrill the holes, installing the speaker was going to be tough inside the finis...

Re: T18 Rebuild thread.

So all the panels are glued and braces in. I made another brace to match the existing large exposed brace on panel 12/7. T18 rebuild 5 resized.jpg Now here is the problem, with Panel 2 now four separate pieces glued together, but not at the same time there is some misalignment, but not horrible. T18...

Re: T18 Rebuild thread.

So decisions have to be made. I could widen this box two ways. 1. I extend the 5.5" width pieces on one side, starting from panels 2A, 2B, 3... to section 12. Then the braces. Just like you build the box in the plans. Then when those dry, I just glue the other 4" half of the box onto the t...

T18 Rebuild thread.

I built a T18 a year ago powered by a Tang W6 6.5" sub. I got the sub on clearance for cheap. I did a search on the forum and it appears it will work in a T18, but the output will be diminished due to the lower Vas, which is less than the required Vas per the plans. The rest of the specs are go...

Re: THT LP -- FINALLY!

After I built my 33" THT, my next build was a lil' 10" T18 I built for my sister. That was fun, it was so tiny and cute after wrestling with those 32" wide panels.

Re: TT driver choice

The horn itself adds a 2 ohm loading on top of the 4 ohm driver, so the amplifier will see them as 6 ohms a piece. So these three wired together in series 18 ohms load on the amp. Will that amp still be able to drive it? You will want at least 60 watts rms per box. You could build a 4th box to get b...

Re: 8 driver SLA center channel crossover?

I will be doing the same center channel build with the same 4" driver. I was thinking about using 9 tweeters and having just one tweeter firing either to the rear, up, or side firing . I was thinking "outside the box" on this one. Your "inside the box" idea works too. Since ...

Re: 8 driver SLA center channel crossover?

You could rear mount the tweeter if you routered the opening of the tweeter opening from the front for better dispersion. The tweeter face plate would not hit the woofer cone from the back side. You could also shift the tweeter to the right or left to get some clearance to move the woofer up a littl...

Re: SLA drivers

I have used a ton of these drivers in other projects. https://www.parts-express.com/4-Treated-Paper-Cone-Woofer-16-Ohm-299-320 These drivers perform very well. The question is: They are 16 ohm which work good in multiples of 2, 3, or 8 drivers with most HT amps but the curved SLA option would requir...

Re: amp for car sub placement

Big power cables generate significant magnetic field interference. Keep the big power cables well away from sensitive electronics and all EFI computer stuff. Run the big fuse or large breaker for the power cable right by the battery. If the power wire ever shorts from being cut from sheet metal wher...

Re: THT, What to expect from Premium driver?

The more power you give them the harder it is to hear normal speaking dialogue while watching movies from all the rattling. I get so much noisy vibration from wall hangings and rattling windows at higher than normal volumes that it is not an enjoyable movie watching experience even though the bass i...

Re: Vented rear chamber horn subwoofer

The Devastator website lists it as a 5th order Bandpass box. It requires a subsonic filter at 12 dB Butterworth at 17-20 Hz and needs 2,000 to 5,000 watts. The maximum output is listed as >133 dB at 80 Hz. I think the minimum cost "cheap" pro sound 21" driver recommended for it is $50...

Re: 36" THT Low Profile, Warning lots of pictures

I would add some braces perpendicular and in between those lid braces that would stiffen it up along the other axis. While those braces stiffened up the lid in the short direction, in the long direction you could get flex. If the final placement of the speaker will put the access panel in contact wi...

Re: Home theater setup - TLAH, Curved SLA, SLA, THT

Your THT speaker needs to be fully supported along the entire width and length during your build. The weight alone will sag the end panels enough that you will have a hard time fitting later panels and getting the panels to fit together square. Build a platform with 2" by 4" s on edge on 1...
