Odd speaker failure
Thought I cooked a LAB12 in a T39. My brother used part of my rig at a DJ gig for a wedding g reception. He said he didnt run it that hard, but said halfway through the night, he assumed he lost a power amp because the subs lost some oomph. Took the driver out to test, and found the coil former fell...

Re: Boxing tape trick
Nice. I stay away from it because of cabinet building. The glue can leave a residue that can have some odd ugliness when going with stain. But for this, it does seem to make sense.

Re: Peavey Pro 410 horn replacement
Had a weird problem. Thought I bottomed out the woofers. Hard. I brought the Peavey with me to a studio writing session to see what it sounded like with a bit of volume. Got turned up to a reasonable volume, and it sounded awesome for a minute. Then... fart. Only momentarily, but it definitely farte...

Re: Peavey Pro 410 horn replacement
Cheap? Absolutely. It's still a Peavey. But, as compared to the rest of their cabs, this one actually sounds like a real effort was made. It even sounded that way before I replaced the tweeter... just lacked some sparkle. For my tastes, this cab sounds pretty good. Horns generally sound odd wi...

Re: Peavey Pro 410 horn replacement
After second-guessing all week while I was waiting on parts, The cab does sound good. I built the little faital driver a separate chamber by using 2 cheap plastic cups, and some epoxy to fill the space between the two layers. Turned out very stiff. Cut a baffle that is the same size as the old horn ...

Re: T39L attempt
Dig the T39L, liking the rack, but the thing that caught my eye the most was the Peavey Max preamp. I've had my fingers on an old TB Raxx, an Alpha preamp, and the Max preamp. Cannot figure out why I keep selling that stuff off.

Peavey Pro 410 horn replacement
Just got a 410 that sounds great, save for a few minor niggles. The horn is blown, but I picked it up used at a steal of a price. I could tell right away that it is gone, so I knew what I was getting into. Not sure how this cab didn't become Peavey's flagship cab. It is, frankly, a badass sounding c...

Re: Speaker recone glue
Unless you've already destroyed it, you could probably salvage the old one.

Re: Speaker recone glue
Since the dust caps are so heavy, I'd be worried that deleting such a large portion of the weight would drastically change something. Call them and tell them to ship it pronto.

Re: Speaker recone glue
reconekits.com usually sends a bottle of adhesive in the kit. It's good stuff.

Re: Amp for 2 DR250 and 2 T39 :: inuke vs. XLS vs vs Crest ProLite vs. IPR
I can't say I've pushed them into limit for hours on end at 2 ohms, but there is very little difference in performance between a 2 ohm load and an 8 ohm load. If you're into limit all the time, it would probably be safer to get the 5000s. I disagree with this in general. If you mean specifically wi...

More praise for the Crests. I have two PL2.0's and 2 PL3.0's. I have only used one of each so far. Sound great and hum alng without a whimper regardless of what load they run at.

Re: Amp for 2 DR250 and 2 T39 :: inuke vs. XLS vs vs Crest ProLite vs. IPR
The amp... otherwise, it's just a regular sub feed. Right? I gotta be missing something there. I don't do aux feeds.... I'd much rather put a HPF on channels that don't need subs. Helps kill mic handling noise, too.
