Re: Deciding on Bass Cab Build

That sure sounds like a keeper to me! I'd love to hear one. I'll have to do some digging around the area!

Re: Deciding on Bass Cab Build

So… what is the rule of thumb to match amp power to speaker rating? Would it be 100% or more for headroom?

I like a rack mounted power amp mated with either a PreSonus Channel Strip or a Sansamp RPM.

Decisions abound…

Re: J12L Turning Off Melded Array for Woofer only

Just an SPST should do it on the High Pass Filter "+" , correct?

This leaves the low pass filter active?

J12L Turning Off Melded Array for Woofer only

If 2 J12Ls are used bass, Bill suggests the top one be full range and the bottom is woofer only. With that in mind, with both being Melded Arrays, on the bottom unit, can I put a switch on the jack plate to not use the Melded Array or a separate jack to run the woofer direct with no crossover? Or is...

Re: J12L Rattles and Buzzes

I am forgetful of the basics. I had all tone controls halfway, but on the GK they are all boost, not unity.

(OK, read the amp controls, dummy)

Many thanks to my friends and the allmighty Yoda, Bill Fitzmaurice. I’m humbled.

Re: J12L Rattles and Buzzes

I have obviously made a mistake on rear panel bolts! I’ll make new back panels for both to accommodate more bolts. I’ll patch the buzz in the meld diffuser. What about the farting on the “E” string? I’d certainly like it stop. I’m hoping for a tighter sound there as well as the other strings are. Th...

Re: J12L Rattles and Buzzes

Yes, the cabinet is 1/4 inch. There are 8 bolts on the back panel with gasket tape. No air comes out the back when testing. Using it last night was not much better. Just about any note on the low E string farts out running at half volume. Other than that, the cab sparkles with great punch. I wonder ...

Re: J12L Rattles and Buzzes

I'll make the change. The flat pack I got had all pieces 1/8".

Also the center post in the melded array is what is also buzzing. Wherever I press it, it will stop. What to do about that picke?

Re: J12L Rattles and Buzzes

Using an iPad app, f generator, has been a boon. Here's what I've found.

The entire back is vibrating at low frequencies. It's better if I hold my hand on it.

I'm checking the mounting frame and the 1/8" back panel itself to see what's up!

J12L Rattles and Buzzes

I built a pair of J12Ls with Melded Piezos so I could use them for PA and Bass. Last night I took one to a gig and it buzzed and rattled. I was using a Gallien Krueger RB400 bass amp, which is 200W RMS, running it half open with a Gibson Thunderbird. We were perfroming outside and had the cabinet on...

Re: Omni 15 - Can it be built lighter?

I also added a set of casters and handle to mine. I have all three speakers installed.

Maybe I can save weight also using all Neos???

I'll be researching the idea. Maybe it'll be possibly 10 lbs lighter?

Re: Omni 15 - Can it be built lighter?

I play bass and OTB15 is da bomb, which is why I inquired about it. That cabinet is best sounding I've ever had. It's the best full range one that Bill has designed, which is exactly what I am looking for.

I'll look into 1/2 inch poplar plywood for a new cabinet.
