Re: Hi pass filter vs mini dsp
OK. Cool. Thank you. That's one less thing that I need to worry about.

Re: Hi pass filter vs mini dsp
Sorry. Yes, I want to build either 2 THT or 2 THTLP as soon as I can. I'm just trying to find time to build them. Right now I have a Cerwin Vega 15" in a custom ported cabinet, for my sub. It works great for music, and most movies, but it bottoms out with some movies. I had read on another foru...

Hi pass filter vs mini dsp
I have been debating on whether I should use a high pass filter or a mini dsp for my subwoofer. Right now I have a single direct radiator in a ported cabinet. But eventually I want at least 2, "if not 4 folded horns. With that in mind, I shifted more towards a mini dsp 2x4. But I don't know whi...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
thank you. yeah, from what i've read, the resistance is dynamic based on frequency and current across a given wire of a given material. i've read a lot about resistance and reactance, but a lot about reactance is just "blah, blah, blah" to me. i've tried to understand the formulas used to ...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
thank you for your input. i understand that impedance is not static, but nominal impedance gives me something to go on. and from what i understand, the nominal is closer to the least amount of resistance in the circuit. so if nominal is 8ohm, then in reality it may be somewhere between 6ohm and 16oh...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
OK, lets ask it a different way: Q. How do you calculate the NOMINAL impedance of a speaker cab that uses a 2 way crossover such as the one in the SLA's? Let's see if I can do better... In the woofer's passband, it is the impedance of the woofer, as the crossover makes the tweeter disappear, simila...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
so taking the 5.3ohm nominal for the tweeters and combining that with the 5.3ohm nominal for the drivers wired in series, should net a nominal impedance of 10.6ohm. or did i miss something?? You don't add the impedance of the two lines, the crossover separates their loads. ok. so what impedance wil...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
so if i'm looking at this correctly, the nominal impedance for the curved sla with 6 drivers and 6 tweeters should be 10.6 ohm?? three 8ohm drivers in parallel = 1/[(1/8) + (1/8) + (1/8)] = 2.666 then 2 banks of 3 parallel drivers run in series = 2.666 + 2.666 = 5.3ohm then wiring the tweeters up th...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
i'll probably just get the onkyo mic and be done with it. if i plug it in to audyssey and then set it up so i get the same readings in rew, then i should be good to go.
thanks for all the help.
oh, by the way. a disk full of build plans showed up in the mail today.

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
That sucks. I think Onkyo uses the same mic for several other products including their car audio stuff. I'm on the road this week but if I remember I'll post a pic of it and any identification marks over the weekend. Hopefully you'll track one down on ebay or something. I presume Onkyo have their o...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
any suggestions on a decent mic as well as a decent spl meter?? I use the checkmate CM-140 SPL meter that also has audio out. I chose it because REW has the calibration files for download. It seems to work well enough for me to get the results I want. I use the mic that came with the 818 for calibr...

Re: Curved SLA build with added jig
i'm assuming the answer will be "no", but i meant to ask if you have any issues the 818 running out of power with the sla?? Hell no! Never maxed it out. Maybe I should try but would need to wear ear plugs! I suppose it depends on your room. good to know. in 2.1 stereo, the most i've taken...
