Re: HT Build: TLAH, SLA curved, TTLS
Those look great Bill  My next question for the group - any suggestions on hardware for hanging them from the wall? A simple French Cleat should do just fine. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4d/French_cleat.jpg Thank you! That looks like an excellent idea. It might even w...

Re: HT Build: TLAH, SLA curved, TTLS
I have finished my pair of TLAHs. Now if the contractor would just install the roof on my addition! First I mounted the woofers - the annular ring fit pretty well, but could have been a 32nd deeper: tlah_woofs_mounted.jpg Next I installed the wiring: tlah_with_wiring.jpg Then I added batting. Ordere...

Re: HT Build: TLAH, SLA curved, TTLS
Only 2 1/2 years later, I am finally making progress on this build again! We are doing a major house remodel, and I want to set up our new den as a home theater (or at least have really good audio when watching TV) One of the things that took forever on the curved SLA was the decision to rear-mount ...

Re: TLAH - 8 driver - double check
Thank you - a couple days of routing and drilling, and: Leland shipped me the crossover parts today, a cout of polyurethane tomorrow, and I'll be ready to start mounting drivers.

Re: Drivers TLAH and SLA
If anyone else has chosen this Dayton driver, I've determined that a 4 1/16" annular ring 1/16" deep, followed by a 3 11/16" hole (using my router and Jasper jig) is just right .
Now that I've got it dropping in nicely, I just have to repeat 16 times!

TLAH - 8 driver - double check
I'm building rectangular TLAHs with 8 mid-basses, and plan to hang them on the wall. Do I omit the bottom (open end) or top (sealed end) driver?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Curved SLA depth
Next question - AM I correct to assume that I need gasket tape on the 4 sides before bolting on the bottom? Cabinet screws every 6" or so? One observation: I now see that choosing to rear mount the drivers made this a lot harder! I liked the way finished SLAs with rear drivers looked, and did a...

Re: Drivers TLAH and SLA
The price on the Goldwoods has gone up a lot since the last time I looked. The Dayton looks a bit better, with flatter response and longer xmax. The Dayton has a rear gasket, but if you zoom in on the picture you need to do a recess for it. The way to cut the baffles would be to first rout a circle...

Re: Drivers TLAH and SLA
I paid about a dollar each for my midbasses, and fifty cents each for the tweeters, on a close out, so you can't go just by price. If I was to build today these would be the most expensive drivers that I'd use: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-pc105-8-4-full-range-poly-cone-driver--295-16...

Re: Curved SLA depth
Thank you, Bill - that gives me a path to finish my speakers.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:36 pm The internal volume of the cab isn't critical, so it can be shortened. Vertical is better, but you'd find it hard to see the action with a speaker in front of the screen.

Curved SLA depth
I am finally getting back to building my home theater speakers, as part of a home remodel. I plan to finish my TLAHs for right and left, however with a wall-mounted flat screen, the curved SLA seems to stick out farther than I'd like. Is the enclosure volume important? Can it be shortened a bit? Or ...

Re: Titan 39 Build
I'm also a little worried about how much you trimmed from the upper flange - there is only a tiny bit left to seal with the driver cover at the top of the half-moon. I remember not cuting that at all on my T-39, and I don't see it trimmed in the sketchup model.

Re: HT Build: TLAH, SLA curved, TTLS
I'm making a little more progress - I started on the TTLS. Here are the first 3 panels installed: panel1.jpg panel2.jpg panel3.jpg I also have panel 4 in. Now I need a driver before I can go an farther. Perhaps I'll order it today. I'm leaning toward the 10" Dayton. I went down to work on the j...

Thank you - I see that in the plans.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Tue Apr 24, 2018 8:53 pm Put the finish on the inside of the top and bottom before assembling as well, masking off the glue line.
I hope it will work to build the baffle out of 1/2" Baltic Birch rather than 3/4" solid wood. Otherwise I need to start over on the baffle.
