The general rule of thumb for point sources of sound is to keep the cabinets closer than 1/4 wavelength (use the high end frequency), or further than 2 wavelengths (use the low end frequency).
For subs, the separation should be 56ft (@40Hz).
For tops, the separation should be 22ft (@100Hz).

Re: 4-way / 8-out DSP?
we are contemplating building mid-subs, perhaps T30s, to go inbetween our T60s and Omni12s. No :cop: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No! Stop right there. There is ZERO reason to put a box between a T60 and O12's The amount of power needed to bridge between the efficient use of those two cabinets (or r...

Re: 4-way / 8-out DSP?
does anyone have any recommendations or experience of management systems with 4-way crossover capabilities? The Behringer DCX-2496 has six outputs, and all are independent. So, it can achieve four independent output channels. If you need eight outputs, then you need eight. If you can make something...

Re: How many different designs have you built?
The price of the CD assumes that few people will actually build more than ten or twelve of the designs, otherwise I'd charge $299. Having all of them gives the CD owners the opportunity to sift through them and choose which ones will work best for them. +1 I bought the CD with no intention of build...

Re: new to external amps
Sorry.....but, that just ain't true. You turn the knob all the way down....there ain't no sound. In modern amps the "last click" is "-infinity". That will stop the signal from progressing out of the input stage of the amp. One click above that.....and a sufficiently large input ...

Re: SLA Pro's outrunning T-39's
While playing recorded music the subs amp channel was wide open, the tops amp channel was 3/4 open and was ALOT louder than the subs which Did you compensate for the difference in signal coming from the crossover? You have one octave going into the subs, and 7 octaves going into the SLAs. That creat...

Re: Okay you DJ Gurus
I can see not bringing your own pa for obvious reasons, but your own "instrument"!? Would Stevie Ray Vaughn ever play a house guitar? I'm just disappointed now  SRV would likely have brought his own guitar(s), a guitar roadie, a couple semis with the rest of the stage gear and light ...

Re: Okay you DJ Gurus
I get you guys point. But I'm not in the production business. I build speakers, sell parts, and happen to have a fairly formidable PA. Racks and stacks is about as far as I'll go. I got the promoter on it. He knows squat about it, but I pretty clearly defined what was needed. You've involved the pr...

A "hot rod" DJ who only carries around a hard drive???.............................This sounds contradictory to everything I know about Dj'ing. You'd think he'd have his own gear. Sounds like a playlist DJ to me. Think of it as a concert pianist who wants the event/venue to supply the Gra...

Re: Okay you DJ Gurus
If they are looking at the CDJ9000 as "low end"...there is a LOT of room to disappoint. The Denon SC3900 is worth a look. Up to four players can share a single USB drive. These are $650 street price. There are some "all in ones" from Pioneer and others that might also work. The X...

Re: Melded Array Difuser Dowel - which glue?
I retrofitted the difuser using PVC. I attached with hot melt glue. 3 years later and I can still pick up a DR200 only holding onto the difuser.

Re: Q's for the DJs here about controllers
I'd beg to differ, touch strips are far more vague and as such, far shittier than a pair of high resolution jogwheels. How do I know? I have both on my DDJ-SX and the touch strips get you kinda where you want to be but with no finesse at all. Fair enough. I started with a Numark dual CD player (CDN...

Re: Q's for the DJs here about controllers
The lack of jogwheels really limits you to having to pre-program a set with immaculately arranged cue points otherwise how do you push a track on/drag it back a little? It's a fairly essential part of mixing. :? There is a trend away from jog wheels in favor of "touch strips" for searchin...

Working for free? Quantify everything...
Some sage advice about those times when you do decide to work for free.... If you're even considering working for free, you're probably in a creative profession — writing, filmmaking, fashion, live performance. It's rare that anyone asks a dental hygienist or a bartender to work for free. Let's get ...

Re: Mobile DJ-ing - how did you get your first gig?
It would be nice if I make enough money to cover the system. I can't see it failing on me. It's a laptop, a DBX driverack and a Peavey IPR1600. You're going to want new/better toys in the future. Tack on (or set aside) $10 to $20 per event to upgrade your EXISTING gear every 3 to 5 years. This does...
