Re: A rare night out
OK, so I botched the I-phone recording but audio is the point here. This was a little loud in a 500 person club. Subs were v-plated wall loaded and much more prominent in person. People I trust used word like "full" and "clear" https://www.facebook.com/178257355525507/videos/1583...

A rare night out
So, I quit the band about a year and a half ago and have been inactive. The band has this “awesome” JBL system but for some reason they begged and pleaded with me to run sound for an outdoor gig on my equipment. I reluctantly agreed and the show was last night. I’ve got a simple rig, an analog Macki...

Re: SLA PRO with Dayton PA6's in White
http://www.reliablehardware.com/customspeakergrill-1x516expanded.aspx I ordered a 4’ x 8’ sheet of the above stuff from a local fabrication/welding shop for $40.00. It isn’t powder coated so you’ll need to primer/paint it. It cuts easily with an abrasive blade on a circular saw and sled. (Full face ...

Re: The journey begins.. 16 T60's and 12 DR280's!!
For the life of me I cant find the thread that gave driver break in procedure for the 12" Kappalite NEO 3012HO.. Anybody know? I did mine at 30HZ, most use 10 volts. 10-12 hrs is more than adequate. Don't worry about the voltage. I just turn up the amp until the excursion is almost at xmax, Do...

Re: Mixing on vinyl, Serato & CDJ without headphones.
This has to be the most confusing thread I've read to date. (also - cute girl) Being in my teens, twenties and thirties when everyone was putting out decent music played by real musicians no less. I'm with that old fart from texas :wall: Wow! That was absolutely fantastic! The way she da...

Re: System Test and Tune
Sorry for the threadjack, racertomtom. Back to your thread. Are you kidding? The thread is finally getting interesting. Not at all a highjack. The passive crossover melded array build is no doubt the cheapest and safest build. Those are not my best traits. unless you are not in need of the wide dis...

Re: so about these new 10lb amps...
'Eva' from diyaudio had this to say. Boy did I laugh.: New class D amplifiers without heat-sinks are the most evolved (and evil) form of programmed obsolescence that I know. They are designed to fail after a few years (just out of warranty) due to thermal cycling, dust build up and corrosion. A fai...

Re: System Test and Tune
The 1st live indoor gig went pretty well, all things considered. The 2:00 pm set up/sound check was cancelled for a poker run/karaoke/auction etc. event and set for 6:00. That turned into 8:00 before opening the trailer doors at a packed house for a 9:00 show, so the sound check consisted of click,c...

Re: From DBX Indoor Auto EQ method
I can't even get my band to not yell WTF! I gave up on pinking a room and go in flat and tweak the board PEQs during the first couple of songs. Even if I can get cooperation with bar managers and patrons, Mic placement usually makes matters worse than flat.

Re: From DBX Indoor Auto EQ method
I think the 'why it's done' is to separate the 'room effects' on speaker response out on their own, so tweaking the EQ bands that apparently have to be done manually is more intuitive (because its quicker and easier to assess the effects of the room if they are superposed onto a 'flat' baseline sta...

Re: From DBX Indoor Auto EQ method
I had to read that article on the DBX forums a few times before I got what he was saying. He's talking about getting the system flat by manually setting the results of an RTA (done outside) into the PEQ (the parametric EQ), which is a different part of the PA+ than the General EQ (the GEQ is used a...

Re: System Test and Tune
I like my bass at 110 dB, at the listening position. I like my highs at 100 dB, That's reasonable. Why, you're going to run them at lower levels, with less EQ, you are. That's true. Curiosity got the best of me and I felt the urge to unleash it. Yep they do get loud. I want to double my s...
