Re: BehringerMods (AudioSmile) DCX output upgrade report

Behringer has developed an un-coveted reputation in the audio industry as a fine purveyor of bargain basement junk. Why would anyone modify / upgrade something not worthy of the time and money? I know the pricing looks attractive to someone just getting started, but it really isn't money well spent....

Re: How to build Rack Panels and put together a rack

Good info. I use a straight edge as you do, but only long enough to mark the holes with a fine tip sharpie felt pen, and then I remove the connectors and center punch and drill to the center of all the felt pen marks. I also prefer mounting the connectors from the back side of the panel as it has a ...

Re: Favorite vocal mic?

I agree fully with Bruce and Brent, the SM58 isn't the best sounding mic in the world, but it's reliable, robust, and generally sounds good for most all voices. An RE-20 is also a great sounding mic, but due to it's size, it's more at home in a broadcast or recording studio. Years ago I had a bunch ...

I think it's stupid parents that create stupid children, by example. There are certainly a lot of them around due to mankind being the only animal on earth that bucks natural selection.

Re: Popular Electronics magazine archive

Lot's of good information there. My dad subscribed to Popular Electronics when he was a teen in the 50's and kept his subscription until the late 1980's. I started reading the earliest issues when I was 13, and subsequently read every issue up until dad discontinued his subscription. That was the re...

Re: Simplexx 212

Update: I did sound production for a music festival on Sunday, and had my Simplexx 212 cabinet in the backline. Because I had a friend mixing at FOH, I was running the stage. Pretty much every bassist that came on stage asked me about the cabinet after they plugged in and played a few notes, like&q...

I should mention that I put the cabinet on the scale today, just out of curiosity. It weighs in at 63 lbs., casters, scoop handles and all.

Re: Project for youth

Since the group would not be building them for commercial purposes you'd only need to buy one set of plans for all of them. With the series/parallel wiring it would be pretty complicated to switch all those drivers, and you wouldn't get an accurate result anyway, as any unused drivers would act as ...

It's interesting the comment about birdhouses. When a friend of mine saw the T48s half built, he arrived at the same impression.

Simplexx 212

For years I've been using an EV TL606 cabinet with a JBL E140 for my bass cabinet, but I was never happy with the tone. I decided to bite the bullet and try something different. There were a few used Ampeg 212 cabinets listed in the local classifieds, but they seemed overly heavy, and a little bit p...

Re: A beginners guide to soldering.

I'm not sure what the ratio would be, but I would just dissolve some crushed rosin into an ounce or two of alcohol until it has the viscosity of corn syrup, or slightly thinner. I use really cheap beginners rosin, which can be had for a few dollars at the most. A block like this will last years unle...

Re: A beginners guide to soldering.

While unnecessary for non-SMDs, liquid electronics solder flux makes soldering much easier. It's a messy but essential part of my electrical tool bag. http://www.amazon.com/GC-Electronics-Solder-Flux-Liquid/dp/B004RIF3BM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370529958&sr=8-1&keywords=liquid+solder+fl...
