Re: Off reservation, Duke Lejeune 4 x 10 build.

Taking on board what Bill said in this thread earlier; I decided to revise this build some. I added 7" in depth to the cab. That takes the cab to an internal volume of roughly 7.5 cubic feet, or 1.8 to 1.9 cubic feet/driver. Adding 7 inches added 2.7 cubic feet, so as it was it was not even 1.5...

Re: THT (or THTLP) in ceiling?

The main constraint here is the WAF. I already have a THTLP (30" width), and it looks good as a console table behind the sofa (also probably not the OPTIMAL place sonically, but passed the WAF, and passed it with flying colors! - see my build thread, there on my signature). I was allowed anoth...

Re: 4 DR280 and 2 titan48 for a record store/venue!!!

I did think about the fact that the cabs are designed in such a way that hanging them just from the top board of the top cab isn't going to work on its own, so we added a bunch of screws from the side boards along with the metal brackets transferring a lot of the load to the sides to compensate. It...

Re: Going to embark on my first build soon. I'm lost.

Hey all! Been a long time lurker and I’ve finally decided to take the plunge into building my sound. The problem I have right now is that I can’t seem to wrap my head around amps, ohms and power ratings.

Just when I think I’ve got it understood, I read a bit more from various forums and then I ha...

Re: Coils n' caps and X and overs - DIY crossover for newbies

Oh! So Even with enameled wire the awg can be too heavy? Sure. That's why there is different recommendations in the plans for filters. No need to use a heavier AWG coil when you don't have to. Also, i've read that DCR should be less than 5% of driver impedance (?). When connecting 8 ohms in series ...

You should be able to find a D25D diahpragm for the APT-80 for $10 + shipping.

Then you wouldn't have to reconfigure the settings...

Re: Coils n' caps and X and overs - DIY crossover for newbies

...but i honestly would like to know how it behaves electronically when the insulation makes the wires so far from each other, compenssred with larger awg for DC-resistance when using, what i believe, longer wire. Hard to find many sources online so perhaps It's just stupid? Inductors store energy ...

Re: Coils n' caps and X and overs - DIY crossover for newbies

IMO, coils should only be made with enameled wire, not household wire. Sell the wire you find as scrap to fund "proper" inductors. Values are crossover specific. As far as using flouro caps, you realise you can't just throw any value cap in there right? Values and type are crossover specif...

I'm totally cringing about the flying of the cabs.
It is not the way to do it.

Unfortunately, that overshadows what otherwise looks like an excellent build to me...

Re: Finally! Omni 12 Tall Boy build

If the coil melted it creates a short and lowers the resistance value of the coil. Perhaps that's what occurred and your amplifier is limiting/protecting itself due to a really low impedance. Just a thought and another urging to check the DC resistance across the tweeter terminals. If it measures m...
