Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

Oh, even attempting to 'make the turn' was a far-off dream for me. :noob:

The subs are not BFM, I have been interested in them for years, but as you can see my DIY skills are not on a very high level...

The plugs are claimed, thanks you guys!

Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

Guys, I bailed out. I purchased a 4-pack of short Speakon cables for a fair price. I don't mind delegating sometimes, and this is one of those times. I could get my wires into the Speakon pole, but when I would tighten the screw down, the wire wasn't secure. The suggestion to tin the wire first, the...

Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

I gotta bring up the 2+/2- wiring you posted in the pic. Is that how your sub jacks are are currently wired, or is that how you initially planned on wiring them (because you're building)? Building them. I was curious if it mattered which poles I picked. It would make sense to pick 1+ and 1- but whe...

Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

This seems doable, if I can learn how to treat the split cable so it looks presentable? Take the outer jacket off (using a sharp knife, being careful not to mark any of the sheath around any of the inner cables). For example, remove say a foot of outer jacket. Use appropriate sized heatshrink on ea...

Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

Basically, I'd put the red on 1+ and the white on 1-. Okay, easy enough. I can't fit two wires (red, light red) into one Speakon pole though. Absolutely no reason to do that. You are running parallel. Make it easy and just run a jumper between the cabs. Forget the 4 conductor cable, it's not necess...

Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

I'm doing a terrible job explaining myself, so I made a pic... does this look okay?

Re: Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

Ok, let's start over here..... You are saying jacks (chassis mount connector), but it sounds like you mean plugs (cable mount connectors)...right? Yes... I bought my plugs on Ebay, and they're not genuine Neutrik. They do fit my speaker inputs though. Is there an agreed-on industry protocol ...

Speakons for subs: mixing 2 & 4 pole jacks.

I'm upgrading some banana plugs to Speakons. I just bought some 4 pole Speakon jacks (I didn't know there were two types) and I already have a couple 2 pole Speakon jacks on hand. So now I have both types. I also have some 2-wire cable, and some 4 wire cable. Mixing the different cables wasn't a pro...

Re: Mismatched amp/speakers: What can I expect from a Limite

I think you missed Bill's point. What he is saying is that with your sub getting it's maximum amount of voltage - it can't even come close to keeping up with the Omni 212. In other words.....build or get a sub that can handle more power or else you will blow it trying to keep up with the tops, or y...

Re: Mismatched amp/speakers: What can I expect from a Limite

It's an Omnitop 212. http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9308/omni212.jpg I'm not sure why that's relevant, but there it is. (I didn't build this cab -- I am not able to build anything currently -- the seller told me it's an Omni 212) Just pulled up the original email, it's rated at 500 watts not 600...

Re: Mismatched amp/speakers: What can I expect from a Limite

Here's my setup (I posted about this originally in the THT forum) Omni 212 crossed over at 100hz (mids/highs) Two Bag End SE 18 subs I just found a Servodrive Contrabass (cheap) so I decided to try it. I'm thinking that I will cross the Contrabass over around 50hz (initial guess) just to reinforce w...

Re: Mismatched amp/speakers: What can I expect from a Limite

Thanks.

To be more specific, can the DCX's Limiter limit a 900 watt amp to 20 volts? And do it without narrowing the frequency response, or degrading the audio quality? Would I be better off if I had a less powerful amp to begin with?

Mismatched amp/speakers: What can I expect from a Limiter?

How robust can a Limiter be (specifically, on the Behringer DCX2496 or CX3400) and will heavy limiting have a negative effect on my sub's sound? I have a subwoofer rated at 3 ohms, that the manufacturer rates at 200 watts RMS, and 500 watts peak. The manual suggests sending no more than 20 volts to ...
