Re: Piano finish

Polyurethane is not the easiest product to polish out. Lacquers or water based acrylics are much easier to work with. Poly is typically a "friction" finish mechanically bonding to the layer below. "Dissolving" or "crosslink" topcoats actually dissolve the layer beneath,...

Haven't done a DR in a long time, that's good to hear that the plans have changed.

Re: Grizzly.com questions

Definitely rout the big holes. Baltic is absolute hell on forstner bits. 1/4" plunge bit (straight or spiral) done in two passes will move along pretty quickly.

Re: tweeters are the bane of existence

+1 on old fashioned rubber cement for sealing tweeter backs. Non toxic, easy to remove, done it a few times with excellent results. As far as the seams on the piezo array, I wound up with lots of splinters and shavings. Added some to the backs and things tightened up. The ABS "dust" added ...

Re: How the He11 do U deal with sound "experts" in the booth

In retrospect, a thread I probably shouldn't have started! :owned: Sorry 'bout that, I'll not do it again. Most of this congregation is pretty cool. I did my best to humor this guy, solicit his input, asked him for specifics, but he had to be right. Turns out he's a constant PITA for the pastor and...

Re: How the He11 do U deal with sound "experts" in the booth

Yeah, this guy really got under my skin. I don't usually give a rat's ass about these kind of people, tried to be nice to him -- once. More a board rant on my part than anything else. Most of our congregation is appreciative of (& oblivious to) the sound system -- till it fails. After 20 years i...

How the He11 do U deal with sound "experts" in the booth?

Wayne and I have our church system dialed in now. Wayne mixed a soloist with an MP3 instrumental last week that sounded like it came right out of the recording studio. Get compliments from the older folks who can actually hear the service & the band. Like every venue there are some minor issues ...

Re: PEAVEY IPR 1600

We have two of the IPR1600's driving our church PA system. http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/Church/LightTheWay.html One handles the OmniTop12's; the other a single Titan 39/Delta12LF and four small 8 ohm stage monitors wired in parallel. Neither amp is running anywhere near max gain, no problems ...

Church PA, OmniTop12, Titan 39 Build Threads & Review

Re: Titan 39 - As a memorial

Thanks guys. She had a rough three years, but we got through it. Getting old ain't for wimps. :( We fired up the sub this Sunday and I have to say I'm really pleased with the whole PA system. (We were using an old Tuba 24 rolled at 55Hz) I can honestly say most of the audience is effectively unaware...

Titan 39 - As a memorial

I've been slowly working through a build for a new church. OmniTop12's, my own stage monitors and a Titan 39. BUILD PAGES HERE: http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/Church/LightTheWay.html Two weeks ago my wife passed away. I finished the sub, and turned it into a memorial for her, using some of her ...

Re: OmniTop12's/Titan 39

Thanks, I'm gonna have to get creative on finishing the sub. Gonna try to make it fit with the altar and clear coat Auraco plywood. Plan is to go dark on all the hole filler, add a few random dings here and there, stain seal/wipe on a dark glaze coat/then spray. Give it a distressed/antique look. Pr...

Re: OmniTop12's/Titan 39

In final assembly, I screwed every hole in the tweeter array. I've talked with the "sound master" and made the same observation on down tilting the cabinets a bit. During sound checks the tweeters seemed dialed in about the 4th row (out of 10 rows). Overall, the coverage was amazing...

Re: OmniTop12's/Titan 39

Shawn, thanks for the heads up on new plans. Down to 24" wide in any event, but these might save me some beautification time. 100 degrees now, so I'm waiting for our next cool spell to start wacking wood. The grill cloth is a perforated synthetic mesh made for soccer/football jerseys stretched ...

Re: OmniTop12's/Titan 39

Well I finally got the Omni Top 12's done, and in place. Got the final Cert of Occupancy on Friday, Sunday they held services. We're using the bass player's Titan 39 for now. All in all, a pretty successful build. (So far) :loler: The Omni12s (melded, down tilted arrays) did a phenomenal job of cove...
