Re: 1st BFM build: 2 X Omni 15 TallBoy in 2-12 configuration

The speaker will not work to spec below 60 degrees.

Would Bill or someone else expand on this a bit; it's a brand new concept to me. Speakers do not perform to spec at moderately low temperatures? I learn something new every time I visit here, it seems.

Re: Fiberglassed Parts in Speaker Build

If you go to talkbass.com and do a search on composite cabinets, you'll find a boatload of information. What seems to work really well is using EPS foam panels laminated on both sides. It makes for very stiff and potentially very light components.

Re: Estimated Average Construction Time for BFM Cab Designs

I don't see anything in these formulae that factors in marital status. My experience indicates that having a spouse limits shop time and thus adds significantly to build time.

Re: Jack 112 Lite, (x2)

MUST stop looking at this build thread now.

I've got a pair of J110s that I built last year, and absolutely love'em, but these Jack Lites are just too cool. What a fun project!

Re: Pair of Jack 10s

One of the keys to Bill's designs is that they are accessible to nearly anyone with a few basic tools and a good supply of patience. I imagine there are any number of ways that they could be marginally improved at the cost of increased construction difficulty. * He's stated elsewhere that the differ...

The finished product: http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/ad122/Philonius/Jack%2010%20build/Finished.jpg I saw another build thread here which featured cosmetic disks mounted to the face of the baffle and liked the look. Re: Pair of Jack 10s

It's the same size as the 5" cutout at the center of the baffle. So it just lines up concentrically with that, same as if I was using the 1/2" plywood phase plug specified in the plans. A schmear of PL, a screw through the foam to maintain alignment, some weight to "clamp" the pl...

"16 ga is plenty inside the cab. No worries."

Oh. Well, it's 14 ga now. I've gotta say, me and soldering just don't seem to get along.

Re: Pair of Jack 10s

Excellent, thanks. I mounted the corners, handles, and drivers this afternoon. 'Hoping to run the speaker break in overnight. Damping, wiring, seal 'em up and go. They ought to be ready for House Party next Friday.

Re: Pair of Jack 10s

Well, I've been busy. I do tend to get a bit obsessive when I've got a project going. Finished filling, sanding and painting boxes, here is a pic of them in my apparently chaotic shop. It's actually not that chaotic, but is getting to need a good cleaning at this point in the process. http://i928.ph...

Re: Duratex...To spray or to roll. That is the question

I just finished rolling a second coat on my pair of Jack 10s, my first experience with Duratex. What I've learned so far: Don't bother with a standard primer. Duratex bonds well to bare wood and fills quickly. I primed and then Duratex'd some sub assemblies and got a certain amount of crackle effect...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

I just read through this thread; good work! It looks like when your all done you'll have not only a fine speaker cab, but a whole new set of skills and a much bigger tool collection than you started with. Be careful or you'll get hooked.
