Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
Yea, once I heard it was an airtight audio connector I was sold! I've glued/caulked/siliconed so many spring loaded connectors I can't even count them anymore. They are real nice sounding as well as loud. I had a friend come over and give them a listen and he said they were probably a little louder ...

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
That's gonna' be the loudest taxi in town. I haven't pushed them too hard but at about 20v peaks during real music playback I was getting 124db at one's mouth and 120db at the driver seat. I don't understand why they can't be side by side even if they aren't "mirror image". Can'...

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
Got all done with the assembly today. Just need finishing touches. I totally screwed up and forgot to make one of the two a mirror image of the other since they will sit side-by-side. :wall: :wall: :wall: The only way they will fit in the truck now is if one is on its back - or I do some major surge...

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
Got some more done tonight. Progressing nicely although even with the radial arm saw it's a challenge to get straight cuts. I mean cuts off by less than 1/16th inch. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
carputer ftw..... i built one in my car as well.... which skin are you using? That's actually an Android tablet and that's just the way they look stock. I did a few minor tweaks like removing the status bar at the top, but for the most part that's just the way it is. That's the reason I picked it. ...

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
very cool. what are you packing for midbass? For now, just some mid-grade Alpines I bought when I got the truck to replace the blown factory speakers. Every one of them... blown. IDK how... 6.5" up front and 6x9" in the back. They sound alright, but I don't know what I'd replace them with...

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
What amp and such? Factory system? It's the amp I got free from a buddy whose girlfriend didn't want it in her car anymore. He went off to the Marines so he gave it to me. It's a... umm... Dual XIA3145. About $50 but 100W x2 @ 4 ohms. So it should work for now. The whole system is far from factory ...

Re: (2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
Fun. Prepare for hi fidelity bass. What's the supporting system? Anything rattling now get dampened. I've gotten most of it. Removed the spare tire tools and holder, took off the back plastic panel on the hatch (just couldn't get the damn clips to stop rattling), and stuffed it with foam around the...

(2x) Tall AutoTuba Build
I got the drivers the other day and picked up the last of the supplies today. Hopefully with the lessons learned from my first THT build a couple months ago and the best piece of borrowed equipment ever - radial arm saw circa the 1970's  - this build will go more swimmingly than the last - ...

Re: Brickwall Limiter
Reading this, I have to ask, "Shouldn't it be dead quiet?" I wonder if it is the receiver since it was just recapped. The polarized prongs could be hooked up backwards. The ground prong and the 'neutral' prong of a three-prong plug both end up on the 'ground' buss in the breaker panel. Th...

Re: Brickwall Limiter
That was my first thought as well. Directly into the same outlet as well as into one across the room - same problem.

Re: Brickwall Limiter
Well, I'll tell you the whole story. I have an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver (with a freshly re-capicatored HDMI board; that was fun) plugged into a surge protector with a 2 pronged, non-reversible plug. The inputs for the receiver are both HDMI - cable box and home theater computer. Output is a single HD...

Re: Brickwall Limiter
Thanks for the link. It was a good read. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything that will help me with my particular problem. The cables don't seem to be at fault - as simply plugging in the compressor causes the hum to start, even when no audio cables are connected to it. That article does make me wo...

Re: Brickwall Limiter
Well I got it all hooked up. Took a while since the instruction manual is somewhere between useless and unhelpful - at least for someone with no experience with these things. It's working pretty well to eliminate peaks in the signal, although I was somewhat surprised it seems based more on limiting ...
