As far as setting limiters on the tops, I have read 1khz is the standard, but wouldn't using a lower freq thats just above the HP crossover for the tops be a better idea since more power would be used at the lower freq than the 1khz?

Any DJ worth his salt would surely practice "no more gaps" Beatmixing, or even "slam transitions" are one way to do it. In a club environment...the music should be "continuous"...or there should be an announcement going - no "dead air." But "gaps".....
