Re: Hearing with their eyes

Couple of things I get from reading this thread. If it's a good customer you want to hang on to them. There aren't too many around that care enough to hire out their sound. You should always try to be objective about your mix. Some bands want a certain sound and if it doesn't go against your grain t...

Re: CNC from sketchup

I've used a autoCAD and a CNC in the past to build cabs. You would have to cut one, make adjustments then cut the rest (still making adjustments along the way if you truly want to make it snap together). You will still have to add angles to the edges. If you have unlimited access to a CNC it has its...

Re: QSC TouchMix 16

Remember that with great power comes great responsibility. This is true when it comes to mixers. The more they do, the more you will have to learn, and the more you can screw up a mix by implementing the cool features. Presonus are cool for what they do as they have real faders which works well when...

Re: Standard rate for soundman/PA?

This is an easy one. Just figure what it's worth to you to do the gig and charge that. My pricing goes all the way from $300 to $2300 a day depending on who, where, and when. There are bands that are easy and bands that are not. Sometimes I'll cut the band a deal if they unload and load my equipment...

Re: presonus Studio live

I've used the X32 quite a bit, and the XR18 a few times. If I was consistently running bands with 16 channels or less the XR18 would get my vote as the navigation is fast and the access to channels is much fastener because you can almost "see" all of them on the screen (iPad). Live sound i...

Re: presonus Studio live

16 mic pres.

You have to watch what all these boards refer to as "inputs".

That being said, the XR18 is the clear winner in my book in terms of software work flow. I actually like it a little more than the X32 software in terms of layout and flow.

Re: Wedgehorn 10's W/ Urethane horns

When using side fills correctly, phase cancellation should not be a concern in terms of other monitors on stage. If you are putting FOH through monitors on the side of the stage and thinking that is how they are suppose to be used then that is incorrect and will cause issues. Think of side fills as ...

Re: SLA Pro's outrunning T-39's

"It was in a living room"

This is your issue. You had major cancellations going on.

In an open field I run my 4-t48s 10 db below my tops. Put me in a room or between two buildings (this past weekend) and I have to split my subs to try to counter this and run them a little hotter.

Re: Amp for 2 DR250 and 2 T39 :: inuke vs. XLS vs vs Crest ProLite vs. IPR

Brent, you got my interest up with your answer to the 60v question concerning the IPR3000.

But now are you telling me you have run them at 2ohm for hours without issue. That's interesting from a emergency point of view. Are we talking max output at 2 ohms or just medium duty?

Behringer NU-6000

My question for today is: Does the NU-6000 put out 60v per side?

I know what they advertise, but I want to know what they actually do.

Re: New Amp's for 4-DR250's & 4-T39's

I run my DR250s stereo on two separate amps. 2 melded and 2 compression. Greater control of EQ and power shading. May not be something you do now but definitely consider it for the future.

It's important to do at least one free gig a year to remind yourself why you should never do free gigs!

Re: Small world

Good point Bruce. Old recordings did not have bass. Had a promoter all over me at a New Years gig because the guns and roses bootleg mp3s she gave me to play were nothing but hiss. Interesting how rap music (bass oriented) changed the way music sounded for the better with more full range mixing. Kic...
