Re: Finally! Omni 12 Tall Boy build

Final detail question. What distance do I set up the Microphone from the speaker? I was planning on setting the tablet on a TV tray out at the 30'ish distance but I started thinking that was just an assumption and might not be the correct location. I usually put it out about 10 feet or so when I'm ...

Re: Internal Amp For Tuba 24/30?

Can the Titans be made with an internal plate amp? Yes. Although, I don't understand why anyone would want to. Maybe there are some good options for plate amps for subs, but I haven't seen any. The biggest Dayton at Parts Express only has RCA inputs and wouldn't run a pair of T39s with any extra he...

I also realized I skipped the dampening foam (I guess I got too excited) so I need to revisit that.
You need to do that before any more testing.

Re: 'smallest gauge available' = thickest or thinnest?

I see that for a piezo tweeter array, 28ga is recommended in the plans (J12L). The only reference I see to wire gauge for the low end is that the inductor should be 14-18ga. Should the wiring for the woofer be in this gauge range as well? I'd use 12-16ga for the woofer. The tweeters are pretty much...

Re: Tubas for sale

Back in the day of being a builder of BFM cabinets I made a table tuba for myself 8" driver. Along with making a THT ready to except a 15" driver. This one I made for client but did not like the outcome and went a different way. The Table Tuba is finished and is being sold without a drive...

Re: Finally! Omni 12 Tall Boy build

I am just messing around getting familiar with all this stuff until I get the mic. Just be aware - the mic is just a tool. Don't try to let your eyes determine how things sound by looking at a graph. It will help to locate problem areas so you can address them quicker. But, you've got to do it outs...

Re: Internal Amp For Tuba 24/30?

Bruce, Why do you recommend the 3012LF instead of the LAb12? Also what external class D amp would you recommend? Lighter and cheaper - same output. I'd choose the amp based on how many boxes you are going to run. If it's just one sub, then the Crown XLS1000 (used) or the 1002 (new) would have plent...

Re: DR 280 Speakers, commonly used amplifiers

Stereo? Mono?

DR250 will far outrun a pair of Tuba 24s. That's a bit of a mismatch.

The lightest option would be the Crown XLS series. What drivers are in the T24s?

Re: Internal Amp For Tuba 24/30?

I am doing sound for small bands in small to medium size bars. I want a sub that is small to load in my suv. I have Peavey RBN 112 tops. Slim T39s with 3012LF drivers. That will give you way more output than small Tubas. As far as putting a plate amp in, you can do that, but you MUST have the abili...

Tell us a little more about what you are doing. Tops? What's going through the PA? How big are the venues you are playing, etc? Why Tubas instead of Titan? Tubas go lower, Titans are louder. Live bands rarely require the Tuba and get more bang for the buck with T39s or T48s.

Re: Internal Amp For Tuba 24/30?

No, they don't. You'd have to modify them. It takes a little careful measuring and planning to make sure you find a location where it will fit.

What will you be using the sub for? Home theater/music? Live sound?

Not sure that is still true or occurs on all Eminence drivers. Certainly you can test the polarity just by switching back and forth and see which sounds louder.

Re: Yet another newbie, sorry guys

Hi Bruce, just seemed to be the easiest way to get started. I take your point and will give it a go. But only after I do get a serious signal from those subs. That still is the main issue. I can't set any cross-over frequency if I barely hear anything from those sub-speakers even under full throttl...
