Re: Old Dog Learns New Trick
Great post, thanks for sharing. Bass players are the offensive linemen, you really need them, but they're not noticed until they make a mistake. I pretend to be one. Gotta' admit that I've been blessed by playing with really good bass players forever. I've never been in a band with a bad one. One g...

Re: Old Dog Learns New Trick
I understand your reluctance to not buy without playing. Maton are remarkably uniform guitar to guitar sound wise I find, but the odd one has a tinny shrill to it that's a PITA through PA, but sounds fine acoustically. Could be fudging around with the internal pickups and mikes, or hundreds of mile...

Re: Old Dog Learns New Trick
Good on you Bruce! In no particular order, I'm impressed with: You remembered the tip jar, and real money went in it. You got a looper. You chose the Maton. You admit to using Berry. Oh, yeah, thanks for the laugh. Glad it went well for you... The story on the Maton was that we were on a New Englan...

Re: Old Dog Learns New Trick
Eeeeeerrrmm ..... should I say: "why, thank you for the compliment!" or rather: "how come after all these years of gigging you still underrate the competence and value of the single most important instrument and musician in any band ?!" Bass players are like the mule pulling the...

Old Dog Learns New Trick
Been a little slow around here, so I thought I'd regale you with a narcissistic, self-aggrandizing, and barely interesting tale of my journey into my most recent musical first.... After hundreds of gigs playing and singing in bands, trios, and duets, I finally had my first solo show last Thursday. I...

Re: Omission from OTop8 Plans?
2 quick questions... 1) In the plans it shows the phase plug extensions extending from the baffle towards the driver but it doesn't say if these are a just a single circular disc the same size as the baffle ones or whether they are multiple discs of 1/2" ply layered, or whether they need to be...

I'm not even sure I know what those look like....do they have a washer head?Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 8:36 pm 1/4" lags is overkill. What works very well is metal roofing screws, which come in many lengths and have a 1/4" hex head.

Re: T48 stack
chance of a screwdriver slipping and poking a hole in the cone. Great tip.. are you speaking from experience Bruce? No, but I had a scare or two......one thing I do now if I'm screwing from the front of the driver is to put one of the baffle cutouts on top of the cone when screwing in the driver. I...

Re: T48 stack
Thank you for all the input. I really should stop second guessing what the plans say, but I do appreciate having good and solid reasons for why things are the way they are. I have lots of experience using screws, so no worries there, I probably already have some good, heavy-duty ones of the right s...

Re: Omnitop 8 UK driver choices
Finally I think of much greater benefit is what happens at the bottom of the frequency range and the 5.5mm Xmax of the Fane I would consider a worthwhile trade for slightly reduced sensitivity in the midrange. You are planning to use subs with them, aren't you? If so, then the extra xmax really isn...

Re: Danley Sound Labs Limiter Guide + ??
Interesting. Is 60v the maximum voltage the T60 should see regardless of the limiter type? Do you have recommendations on timing components of the limiter settings for the T60? Do you believe in this theory of using several limiters in series? I found a Powersoft PDF speaking to this effect as well...

Re: Danley Sound Labs Limiter Guide + ??
You should be able to hear any distortion and turn it down. If you really want a limiter in the chain on the Danleys, I'd consider something between the thermal and xmax limit that they suggest. I'd guess 40-45 volts would be safe and keep things under control. Don't get lost in the weeds with the d...
