Re: split RCA or no?

To clear one thing up about summing two signals. You can do so with a "Y"as long as the two signals are the same in all respects. This is absolutely and categorically incorrect: it's all about the hardware circuitry of the outputs and has nothing whatsoever to do with the signal. The Rane ...

Re: Brickwall Limiter

I would try to physically relocate the compressor. One possibility is that the compressor has a crappy transformer in its power supply and is throwing out a lot of noise. The other, and more likely, problem is If it has a metal chassis touching a metal chassis of one of your ungrounded components. O...

Re: DigGiCo SD7, Midas Pro6

At a trade show perhaps five years ago I asked the Digico rep about their consoles using Windows for the base OS. His response bothers me far more than the choice of software: "Eh, you know... it's Windows."

I can't ever consider recommending or even using one because of that comment.

Re: DCX2496 and pair T48s cancelling out

Upon trying to do 1 T48 on each channel, I experience huge cancellation between them. This has not occured with current setup with them paralleled. This rules out 1 of them being wired out of phase. (trying to be an analytical student) Actually, that's not 100% true. If you're at all anal retentive...

Re: DCX2496 and pair T48s cancelling out

The DCX might be wired out of phase internally, who knows? It's far more likely that the preset in use has polarity reversed on one of the outputs or one connector on either a cable or one of the T48s is wired incorrectly. djengineer , check the preset first to confirm that all outputs have the sam...

Re: 4 Pole vs 2 Pole Speakon

Seis Tres hit most of the high points. The four pole version was the original; the two pole came long after and the two are only sometimes interchangeable. Of course, the eight pole connectors aren't at all interchangeable with either of the above. :) Unless you opt to spend extra money for the met...

Re: Speakon 1/4'' combo jack?

NLJ2MD-V Also, these are intended to be vertically mounted on a PC board, so they are much harder to solder speaker wires to. In case that helps make the decision.... p.s. - 1/4" connectors really shouldn't be used for loudspeaker connections. They're horrible for so many reasons, including hi...

Re: Voltage Regulation

Here's something interesting: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/567477-REG/Tripp_Lite_ISOBAR12_ULTRA_12_Outlet_Isobar_Ultra_Surge.html Rackmount! Stick it in front of your power conditioner maybe. The two biggest downsides of these (and most surge suppressors) is that they dump all excess noise...

I'd argue that the parametric EQs in the DCX2496 should be enough for the average situation. If you're not familiar with how to use parametrics, it's time to start playing with them and learning! 8)

Re: signal processing?

the EQ and Xover i am looking at are two channel input each. If you don't already have these, then save the rack space and knobs that are too easy for idle hands to "play" with by getting a DSP that does all that and more. The Behringer DCX2496 is pretty popular around here: it's got EQ, ...

Re: crackly static from bass????

It depended on which way the bass faces as to the intensity. This is usually a prime indicator of an RF noise source near the instrument's pickup. Get away from any electronic (SCR- or triac-based) lighting dimmers; those are the most common offenders, though they usually cause more of a buzz than ...

Ive never used—nor really even seen—the Zed series mixers. I do, however, have a MixWiz3 16:2 (two years old with built in effects) installed at a local coffee shop that has a wide variety of bands and artists through every single weekend. I have no complaints at all about the mixer nor its mic prea...

Re: Mono question - Yamaha stereo mixer

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. So, as a DJ, I'm probably not going to be able to do this since I have to sum it at the amp - or get an external DSP... So you're already using all the available channels on the mixer? Wait a sec, are you currently using the Y-cable to "combine" the stereo output of th...

Re: Looking for a Wire and Connector Source...

I buy all my connectors mail order; most of my purchases lately are from Full Compass, but SpeakerHardware, Markertek or any of a large number of other places will work just as well. Audio cable like shielded twisted pair (mic/line use) and snakes I'll also tend to buy online, but for speaker cable ...

Re: Best DI boxes

One regional sound company here that provides for a lot of major tours coming through the area uses primarily Whirlwind IMP2 DIs; the only reason they also own Countryman Type 85 active DIs is because they are on so many riders. I personally prefer a good piece of iron (a passive transformer) over a...
