Using a hand drill with guides helps in making completely vertical pilot holes if you dont have a drill press. I just finished my first BF design, a tuba 24. The plans were very easy to follow. Building material was 1/2'' 9 ply baltic birch. Baltic birch is a huge step up from the crap from Home Depot.
