Re: Jack 10s and Tuba 24s?
Fair enough -- especially with the cost of plywood these days. So, is there a huge difference between 21" and 24" given the greater Xmax of the LaVoce 10s and the fact that I'm building four cabinets?

Re: Jack 10s and Tuba 24s?
Cool. Do you have any opinion on my 19.5" internal width question? I'm trying to avoid another harrowing drive with plywood lashed to my van, if possible.

Re: Jack 10s and Tuba 24s?
Yup, pack space is one of the deciding factors for now. Do you happen to know if the LaVoce SSF102.50L is an option for the T39 design (I don't have the plans)? If so, I can just repurpose the drivers when I'm ready to move up.

Re: Jack 10s and Tuba 24s?
Thanks to both of you for your advice. T39s are on my radar, but for now I need to keep the subs as small and light as possible. As such, I've ordered a second pair of the LaVoce 10s and plan to use two or four as needed. How much of a performance hit would I take by building the Tubas at less than ...

Jack 10s and Tuba 24s?
I just purchased the Tuba 24 plans and have two LaVoce SSF102.50L drivers arriving this week. My current plan is to use them along with my old-style Jack 10s (with tweeters) as the core of a basic PA for small/medium events (duos, full bands, DJ stuff, etc.), and I chose them for their size/weight a...

Re: Coffee House PA Advice Needed
That's a cool idea. I wish I'd thought of that ;-) Since my original posting, I've actually decided to take a somewhat different approach after considering what other people are using for these low volume gigs and realizing that the Jack 10s I built aren't really all that "imposing" when c...

Re: "Difficult" Venue PA Advice Needed
Ah, I see where I made my mistake. I was thinking of the SLA Pro as being akin to the other tops in that it could be used individually or as part of a line array when, in fact, the SLA Pro is the line array. Forgive my newbieness. What I was hoping to achieve was something similar to the CurvedArray...

Re: "Difficult" Venue PA Advice Needed
After doing a bit of thinking on this today, I'm wondering how a pair of SLA Pros would work for the tops if they were ceiling mounted horizontally. I'd estimate the height of each cabinet to be about 10" in this position (I'll be ordering plans once I get this and another project firmed up), w...

"Difficult" Venue PA Advice Needed
We have a local venue which hosts live music four nights a week ranging from solo/duo acts to full bands. Surprisingly, this venue has no house PA to offer, so each act has to bring in its own sound system. As such, a few of us who play here on a regular basis are now kicking around the idea of hold...

Re: Coffee House PA Advice Needed
And then you'll know if you need to build a small sub :) I'm already convinced that a sub is in order. I'm sure the SLA Pros would be quite adequate with vocals, guitar and most percussion, but my five string acoustic bass and the cajon need some love as well. Right now I'm leaning toward a T18 for...

But of course! You wouldn't want my brand new table saw to collect any dust other than sawdust, would you?kekani wrote:Unless of course you just want an excuse to build something- SLA Pros are cool!

Re: Coffee House PA Advice Needed
Yes, that does help. It looks like the SLA Pros start rolling off around 100Hz, so all we'd need is something to bump up the bottom octave or so to make the lows audible.slavedave wrote:If it helps, I used a T18 as a low end enhancer for several years....

Re: Coffee House PA Advice Needed
Your only "issue" as I see it is the stomp box. With it's rapid high peaking attack in LF (particularly if it's channel strip EQ'ed like a kick drum). I've been working with a few people who use them of late, and, by and large, many think that, with full range mains, having to turn the st...

Re: Coffee House PA Advice Needed
That's a good point about the stomp box. I'll do some research into these devices to see how other people handle the peaks.
