Re: Simplexx 1x12 Build - Woofer only
That's one reason why I stopped using them, having spun more than one nut and then having to cut the bolt. It's not too late to fix this, add eight more retention blocks and use screws.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 Build - Woofer only
Screws are better than any style of nut and bolt as screws don't loosen. You can secure bolts and nuts with Loctite, but then they're difficult to remove should it ever be necessary.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 Build - Woofer only
About the baffle blocks...they're there to give screws more wood thickness to grab hold of. There's no point in them with T nuts. I stopped using T nuts 20 odd years ago, when their quality became so horrible you'd strip half of them, coinciding with when they all started coming from Asia.

Re: Simplexx 1x12 Build - Woofer only
It does apply. It's critical with tweeters, not so much with woofers. But the flip will put the woofers closer together, which will improve the results when stacked.

Re: STTLS - vertical orientation questions
The only way to know for sure if there's a placement issue is to measure the result, which is easy enough using a phone RTA app or REW software. You could aim it down, but that would require using at least 12 inch legs. As to the other question: https://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-right-angle-scre...

You can find on line charts that compare different Q values. I prefer somewhat higher than the 0.7 of Butterworth.

Re: Compresson Driver availability
It's not a textbook crossover. I adjusted it to give the best results. There are only a few textbook crossovers, identifiable by their Q. Simple calculators only offer the usual Q choices, to keep things simple. You don't need to use a given Q, you can use your own. It's like speaker modeling softwa...

Re: Compresson Driver availability
A pair of NSD 2005-16 can be wired parallel for an 8 ohm crossover. Double the capacitor values, halve the inductor value. The low pass filter is unchanged.

Re: Compresson Driver availability
Any driver with comparable specs to the F151, including size and weight, will do. Don't rely on catalog descriptions, look at the data sheets. That automatically excludes cheap drivers that have no data sheets.

If it doesn't do it on one string and does on another it's the bass.

Above or below doesn't matter, or even somewhat to one side, which mine is. Being visually oriented creatures our eyes tell us where the sound is coming from, over-riding the audio directional cues. You would only locate it with your ears if your eyes were closed.

I wouldn't dismiss going higher out of hand. My 55" comes within 8 inches of my 8 foot ceiling. Sitting on my recliner or my reclining sofa the angle is perfect, and that's with only a moderate recline angle. As for the window it should be draped anyway.

It will keep up, the only reason to change is if you want to go lower for HT low frequency effects.
