Re: TLAH Pro 4x8 plywood?

I recommended TLAH based on it being a permanent install, which gives you the option of hanging the mains up out of the way. Another option is SLA Pro, which is much shorter.

Re: Simplexx 110 Build

Put the filter frequency where it works best. The earlier it is in the chain the more headroom there is in everything after it.

And yet I still run Word 2002 and Microsoft Picture It! 7 on W10. I bet I've still got a few Windows 98 programs too.

Re: Do enclosure designs even matter?

Frequency doesn't change, but the spectral content does. It takes relatively little to block very high frequencies. At 10kHz a piece of paper is effective. The mass and stiffness required to contain sound grows exponentially as frequency goes down, so what's soundproof at 1kHz can be totally ineffec...

Re: Vasubandu's Sub of Insanity

It only needs to be close to a corner for full sensitivity, which 10 out of 9 users don't need anyway.

Total displacement of a pair of S2010 is 280cc, a 3012LF is 496cc.

Re: Accounting for whole space / flown subs

Flown is at least a wavelength high, so those aren't really flown. But it is outdoors, so I'd go more for sensitivity than LF extension.

Re: Accounting for whole space / flown subs

That's correct, so to reach the same levels you need twice as many subs. And that's reason #2 why flying subs is a bad idea. Reason #1 is the complexity and cost of an approved flying rig.

Re: OT8 J Array

I'd have to get a lot of requests for it, as in the hundreds. A J array is only worthwhile when the array height is enough to make the shape beneficial to the result, which means a large venue, in which case I can't see users going for a 2x8 instead of a 1x12.

Re: Do enclosure designs even matter?

If not for the enclosure those long wavelengths would not be produced at all, the front and rear waves from the cone would meet and cancel each other. A 20 Hz sound wave is 56 feet wide. 40 Hz is 28 feet, and 50 Hz is 22.5. All of those will pass through walls, and the lower frequencies will pass th...

Re: Vasubandu's Sub of Insanity

wouldn't there be advantages to actually making the enclosure an appropriate size? Speaker manufacturers are in the business of selling speakers. They sell what people want, what people want is speakers that are small. If, instead of accountants, engineers determined what was sold Bose would not ex...

Re: 32 Inch driver dilemma

Without full T/S specs there's no way to design a cabinet for it. The picture, BTW, is not a 32 inch driver. Judging by the terminal posts I'd say it's a fifteen or eighteen. All the drivers on the site appear to be knock-offs, if not downright counterfeits, right down to the model numbers. Confuciu...

Re: Vasubandu's Sub of Insanity

I also have a nagging suspicion that driver size has increased over the years, but enclosure size has not. That has me wondering about the volume requirements for subwoofers, and I seem to see a lot of ported subs that cannot have the volume they should. They don't. Google 'Hoffman's Iron Law'. Phy...
