Re: What's to chat about?

I used to point fingers and giggle at drummers... why on earth would you choose THAT as YOUR instrument? You gotta lug all those big cumbersome cases everywhere. CRAZY And now, here I am... the sound guy  I used to say the same thing, who in their right mind would want to lug around a drum ki...

Festival patch: Backline Snake: 1. Kick L / Out 2. Kick R / In (You're out of luck if you demand In/Out for a double kick, but I've never had that happen) 3. Snare Hi 4. Snare Lo 5. Hat 6. T1 7. T2 8. T3 9. T4 10. T5 11. T6 12. T7 Any extras (aux perc, pads, etc) take the place of something that's ...

Re: Behringer Wing announcement

Personally, I want to see conclusive unbiased testing. Signal In vs. signal Out. I don't want a "warm" sound, I want an accurate sound. The input preamps, mixer, and output stages should be as transparent and sonically invisible as possible IMO. "MIDAS preamps have that distinct warm...

Re: How to chase your tail

"tweak by ear" was in there as well, just as critical... I would say that is the most critical thing to take from the whole conversation. Pleasing your ears should be the goal of sound, pleasing a graph on a computer screen because a rta mic said so even though the sound is like an icepic...

Re: Behringer Wing announcement

There are some features to the workflow in that video that would solve a whole lot of headaches for the work I typically get. I do a lot of work where there are 5-10 bands/acts that I never heard of before with 15 minute changeovers so typical combat audio. An act halfway through the changeover now ...

Re: Behringer Wing announcement

Meh. :o https://youtu.be/FeEzW3X85-E You are getting a $30k console (cl5) for $3000 - 3500 or less. Not exactly weekend warrior affordable but a lot of mixer for the money. If the channel counts and mix bus counts don't impress you remember they are all STEREO! and backup mics dont use a channel (a...

Re: JBL PRX 812w and 818XLFW Question

You can bet those cabinets are ported, sealed cabinets don't have the efficiency to compete in the pro-sound market. Once you change out the driver, your resale value goes down. You would be better off to sell the cabs as is and start over.

Re: JBL PRX 812w and 818XLFW Question

Could my PRXs compete with a good set of RCFs with a driver swap? Sure, as long as you swap out the cabinet too! Drivers, cabinet volume and tuning frequency go hand in hand. Throwing an expensive driver in a cabinet you have on hand is like throwing darts blindfolded. The volume and tuning frequen...

Re: What's to chat about?

...Studio monitors don't sound very good. Yikes! Studio monitors are designed to help the engineer pick apart the mix and highlight the errors so that they can be corrected. They are tools the engineer uses to do his job. Your crowd doesn't need a magnifying glass on the errors of the mix, ...

Re: What's to chat about?

But mostly I've learned that the ultimate goal is to make it sound good with the tools at hand. ... and that's what aux fed subs are, another tool in the toolbox. Whether or not you need to use that tool is up to you. I need the ability to adjust the sub level from FOH without going on stage. I do ...

Re: What's to chat about?

Definitely not the case this particular time. There was little to no backline spill, nearly inaudible from where I was mixing from. Their amps were behind a partition (no line of sight to the audience), placed directly in front of the musicians on tilt backs aimed at their heads, outdoors, and the ...

Yes, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. Studio monitors don't sound very good. The Yamaha NS-10 is arguably the worst sounding speaker ever made.

SethRocksYou wrote: Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:37 pm BUT, the LR two track recording of the event had too little bass (instrument and kick) to really enjoy listening to.
Most likely because the recording didn't have backline support coming from the stage.
